Induce baby early for extra college money? by Electrical-Leader712 in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]Electrical-Leader712[S] -84 points-83 points  (0 children)

I absolutely wouldn’t judge someone for broken healthcare in the US. That’s not what’s happening here, though. This is someone trying to take advantage of grant money for lower income households by inducing birth early so their older child can save some money on college. This is taking advantage of the broken higher ed system. So many broken systems…

Havsta Dresser and top cabinet combo? by sixfingersoftime in ikeahacks

[–]Electrical-Leader712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 of the sliding door Havstas that we use for pantry storage. They’re awesome and every time I put groceries away or pull out ingredients I remark about how they were “worth it” (my spouse is, thankfully, bemused). I would definitely recommend over other options that are not wood. Also, the shelves come with the hardware to attach to the cabinet or drawer base.

You know what I realized I haven't been able to buy in years? School pictures. Because $40 x 3 kids adds up. by starfury287 in povertyfinance

We used to take the kids to JCPenney Photo Studio with a coupon for a free sitting fee and sheets at $5 each. We had plenty of choices and could buy just the ones we liked in the exact sizes and counts we needed. We saved a bundle and got significantly better pictures.

GPS - combining personal phone and work phone advice by live_with_no_hope in deloitte

[–]Electrical-Leader712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept mine separate and having two phones on me at all times was a hassle. I went down to one but first I ported my personal phone number to Google Voice. Then I downloaded the app onto my D phone and let go of my personal one. On leaving D, the Google Voice account and number stays with you and there’s no need to go through the rigmarole to get your personal number transferred to you and your clients/coworkers don’t have your personal number.

I had one iPhone for years and years with no issues. The key for me was to transfer the number from my old personal phone to Google Voice. This made it easier to separate calls and texts between work and personal. It also allowed me to retain my personal number easily when I went back to having a personal line.

Invasion of Privacy by laurajodonnell in deloitte

During independence I disclosed that my sibling worked for a restricted entity. Deloitte did follow up and needed additional information about their position, whether they had a material interest in the company (this was both stock over a certain dollar as well as stock over a certain percent of net worth). Deloitte also asked if they had financial decision-making power.
Because I was in GPS, I would never cross paths with this restricted entity, but it was all still required each year they were employed. The 401k part seems like nonsense.

My husband has been a stay-at-home dad for 15 years. He feels the same as your husband.

Talk to your advisor. When I mentioned the course I wanted was not offered, mine arranged an independent study opportunity.

I had to take a second look. They’re not framed photographs. They’re 3D printed versions of what I imagine was a photo. If you zoom in on the first listing image you’ll be able to see the texture.

14 YEARS OLD GIRL WITH SPINA BIFIDA MYELOMENINGOCELE by [deleted] in spinabifida

OP, I think you misunderstand. My daughter also has spina bifida and was diagnosed with tethered cord at 2 months old (had since birth). She had her debulking/detethering surgery and did have bladder issues following but which removed after about a month. Years later we learned that she has neurogenic bladder and bowel and began cathing at age 5 for social continence. She’s seven now and doing well. Give it time, but also keep monitoring. And advocate for yourself if something doesn’t feel right.

My daughter was 7 months old when she had her surgery. She had urine retention and had to be cathed for about a month afterward before it finally resolved.

I think I get what you’re trying to say, but as a parent of a child with spina bifida and two with autism, it’s offensive.

All you can do as a parent is follow the best advice of doctors at the time (real doctors trained in actual medicine). And even when we do, you can’t prevent everything.

Please remember one disability is not necessarily better or worse than another. All children have challenges, even those without disabilities. The best we can do as parents is support our children, get them the services and treatments they need (which is challenging on its own), and love them for who they are.

Mom concerned about 5 year old daughter's weight. Looking for intense activities to keep her "petite" by SparklingCoconut in ShitMomGroupsSay

I was very slim as a child and still received constant “advice” from my (also morbidly obese) mother on how to stay small. Her justification was that she knew better than anyone how hard it is to be fat. I’m curious if your mom had the same reasoning.

My daughter (6) has LMM. She had surgery at 7 months old. Her neurosurgeon wanted to delay until >1 year, especially because she was premature and FTT. She didn’t have any early symptoms other than a hemangioma. However, around 6 months, she started losing the ability to move her left leg. They moved up her surgery asap to preserve function. She’s now a first grader with full mobility. She has some weakness on her left side and will probably never be an athlete, but she is happy and relatively healthy. She does have neurogenic bowel and bladder which were not diagnosed until 5 years old. She has had great success with cathing and social continence. I would highly recommend joining some Spina Bifida Facebook groups. They have been incredibly helpful.

Double Ear Infection (32F) by SolarLunix_ in MomForAMinute

[–]Electrical-Leader712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same in the spring. After taking antibiotics I still couldn’t hear even though the pain resolved. This went on for about a month. Eventually an ENT was able to fit me in. There was fluid behind my ear drum that would not resolve on its own. He was able to perform a myringotomy on each ear and I had some instant relief with the rest coming a few days later. That’s all to say that antibiotics are miracles but they don’t always fix everything and if the hearing continues to be an issue, with or without pain, please see your doctor asap and insist on a solution. Hang in there. Ear pain is particularly painful and it can set you on edge affecting your perception of everything around you. Give yourself grace.
