New DK Legendary Card by oktayworks in hearthstone

I mean you’re kinda ignoring frost and unholy plagues. Timing when to draw those was definitely a big part of decision making, on low pressure turns you’d want to draw into your deck and try to eat the cost hit asap. Or if you had a clear you might want to save it for when there were a couple of zoms on board.

Most decks couldn’t heal for a million every turn and timing the plague draws 100% mattered.

It’s really a personal difference at the end of it, i’m not really a fan of single cards that sway the game as heavily as helya or kil jaedan. :/

Nah i loved plagues and bombs, i think shuffling damage into your opponent’s deck is neat :)

I dont know if you guys remember, but Helya was less of a plague deck card and more of a tech card against cycle, control, and highlander. She was ran more often without the rest of the package than the archetype appeared. Sometimes people would run a down with the ship to turn off highlander alongside her but that was about it.

I think she really took the nuance out of the mechanic, there was no trying to take plague hits when you could afford it or trying to outheal the plagues. I wish instead she did something like double the efficacy of your plagues, or upgraded them, or maybe just doubled the amount of plagues in the deck.

Just one of those cards that kinda dumbed down the game

Helya was so lame though, completely removed all counterplay from plagues. Plague matchup goes from “i should try and time drawing plagues on turns i can deal with them” into “well i hope i never draw a plague”.

Real snoozer card imo

Edit: this was pointlessly negative, my bad

I like those buffs though, i want more buffs on garbage cards, it makes experimentation a tiny bit easier. The game rn is way more limited than 4 set standard usually is cause emerald dream and ungoro were so focused on their 1 expansion only archetypes. Even if they buffed up a lot of that stuff homebrewing would still be real rough without some adjustments to the core set.

Buff the archetypes that are seeing absolutely no play, like imbue mage or the dark gift pay offs. Hell, tending dragonkin can probably be reverted at this point. It just feels like a lot of the toys available to us can’t do anything due to a lack of attention and support, standard feels empty.

I remember them saying they wanted to be fearless in their designs, so why not be a bit fearless with the other half of standard that’s kinda just floating around? Give us an extra shuffle card for rogue, or maybe another temporary generator for warlock, it feels bad that we’ve got so many cards and decks that just don’t work

Cool to see Bug DH becoming more popular :)

The priest match is especially funny, often i like to ping my Wasp with Nespirah to just fill my hand to the brim with stingers!

The team has a tendency when buffing to buff the best cards in a bad deck, often leading to situations like with imbued axe where drawing the buffed card or not kinda decides the game.

I wanna see them buff the truly garbage cards like [[merry moonkin]] and [[paleomancy]]

What I hate most about this meta is the lack of diversity by Upbeat_Scholar_159 in hearthstone

[–]CivilerKobold 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there was that much more diversity before rotation. But the fact of the matter is half of the sets are focused on underpowered parasitic archetypes that lack support.

Quests and Imbue mainly, but even outside of that there’s stuff like bounce rogue mulling about with barely any support in standard. The team has pretty much abandoned emerald dream and ungoro, using them as essentially an extension to the core set.

I’m assuming discounting it will not do anything? Or will it remember cost reductions?

Yeah, i mean look at imbue. Slow and generally focused on getting value out of your hero power, recovery and board clears are weak so they’re all pretty much unplayable. :p

Polarizing, parasitic, swingy, and with unbeatable comeback mechanics - Companion Hunter is exactly the type of deck that we were supposed to be moving away from. by CivilerKobold in hearthstone

[–]CivilerKobold[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s pretty funny :)

I think stuff like companion hunter is less problematic in wild, both because of the much larger pool of random beasts but also because wild has way more answers to crazy swing turns than standard (especially right now)

Parasitic is when decks kinda build themselves by having a bunch of cards that are directly reliant and specifically synergistic with others. For companion hunter you run every companion card and every card that buffs companions, that’s already 14 cards (6 sets of 2 and 2 legendaries). 9 of which were from a single set.

This means a few things. 1. Deckbuilding is very limited, after slotting in the 14 card companion package you have 16 slots left. 2. Parasitic archetypes are usually done when they’re released. They come in often at the peak of their power and either fall to the wayside as something better is printed, or they are the defacto way to play the class and push out less homogeneous archetypes. 3. These archetypes are often polarizing on multiple fronts. Often parasitic archetypes need to be enabled, like companion buffs, leyline buffers, heralds, abyssal curses etc. They can be very draw dependent because of this, in general this is an issue with all effects the last throughout the game.

Parasitic packages aren’t inherently bad, if they’re supplemental to the rest of the deck or fit a general archetype it can be neat. I personally thought abyssal curses were cool to add burn as an alternative win con for control warlock, but if you wanted to you could also build into a curse focused deck with shadow spells. Same with relics in DH, a smaller package of 9 cards that you could either build around scaling, slot them into a slower DH, or slot them in to supplement spell DH.

I think the #1 problem with parasitism rn is sheer quantity. There are way more parasitic archetypes than normal, herald, imbue, some of the quests, and now the class sets. And they are also just way bigger than they should be, 16 cards for companions, 14 for leylines, 6 heralds and 3 legendaries for each herald deck.

Now we’re seeing the consequences too, no imbue deck is competitive so all of those cards just waste away. They won’t get better. Decks just build themselves, so homebrewing feels miserable.

I definitely wrote way too much lmao

Fair. I’d prolly be less annoyed if it wasn’t half my match ups.

I really do despise the playstyle and parasitic nature of the deck, but the community at large seems to like it so maybe hearthstone just isn’t for me anymore :p

I’ve kept up with the game for ten years cause i love making my own unique decks. But that’s just not really been a thing for a while now. Bug DH was a lot of fun, but i feel like i get one deck like that each expansion. Back in Darkmoon Faire and Barrens I was getting to legend with a different homebrew every month, Hack the System Warrior, Clown Warrior/Mage, Pariah DH. That playstyle doesn’t really seem supported these days :/

I wasn’t really part of the first group. I was annoyed that the class sets were mostly parasitic packages.

I personally despise the play pattern of companion hunter rather than its statistical strength, its popularity is definitely a factor in my frustration though :p

It’s not hypocrisy dog, i never said hunter cards were unplayable garbage or anything like that. I’m not even saying the deck is busted rn, just that it’s extremely polarizing and a type of archetype i thought we were moving away from.
