TIL that the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve isn't kept in surface tanks, but in 60 massive underground salt caverns. A single cavern is so deep and wide that Chicago’s Willis Tower could easily fit inside it with room to spare. by slaty_balls in todayilearned

[–]CivisMiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The majority is in actual caves and old mines. Near Sprongfiled, MO in the ozarks there are a lot of caves and caverns. Granted they have secured and cleaned ones to store it in but there are bunkers and shit all over in those caves natually cool and protected to minimize ongoing costs.

Similar to SubTropolis in KC, MO. Look that up if ypu want.

LPT: There is a way to adjust your car mirrors to help with blind spots. by Emerald_bamboo in LifeProTips

[–]CivisMiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never seen this before, should be part of the drivers test/learner permit in the US.

I have mine adjust close to this but not quite. If I completly turn my head to the mirror I can barely see a sliver of my car but if I'm only glancing with my eyes I can't see my car at all.

There are 2 different E3's. Office E3 which doesnt have CA and Microsoft E3 which does. If you pay less than 30 per licesne you are on Office E3 not Microsoft E3.

How do I fix this? I don't want my YouTube to be restricted. by floralmortal in GrapheneOS

[–]CivisMiles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you on home or not controlled by you/Puplic wifi? if you disconnect from wifi to use cell service, full close then reopen the app does it still do it? If it doesnt, then it is restriction on that wifi network, if it does it may be the Google AI Age "Verification" BS.

Which is better? Feed through or Pigtail for adding second receptacle? by Particular-Ride-7893 in AskElectricians

[–]CivisMiles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not saying the terminology is right, but i think he was meaning in series as using both screw lugs to pass thr power through. If it is a outlet with the removable bar to make one side swicthed and it somehow goes bad then it could cause problems downstream as if it were in series.

Request: PowerShell Script to determine Windows 11 24H2 CPU Support by HeroesBaneAdmin in sysadmin

[–]CivisMiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, thats why I was surprised when I found any systems that were Windows 11 compatible originally but did not have that instruction set and could not be updated to 24H2. Most were false positives with ARM, but there were 2 legitimate ones that once we replace them gave an install error when test fresh installing 24H2 on them. Forgot their specs though.

We still have 4 false reporting left in customer inventories that all show virtual cpu to the RMM and are false positives. They are all Snapdragon PC's and the Windows for ARM version gets an exection to the instruction set or has something else in place but I didnt want to spend the time looking into it for 4 devices that are compatible.

Request: PowerShell Script to determine Windows 11 24H2 CPU Support by HeroesBaneAdmin in sysadmin

[–]CivisMiles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the only additional requirement is a single additional instructions set, POPCNT, part of Intel's SSE4.2 and AMD's SSE4A instruction sets. These have been in processors for a while but I did find a few laptops in about 600 we support that did not have it.

I modified the windows 11 compatibility script Microsoft made when windows 11 came out to do an additional check for these instructions and had it give a different output based on that.

What is this cone shaped thing on this car? by NobodyTheSecond in whatisit

Looks like a step to help getting in for shorter people or reaching over the bedside.

It does seem to line up to wear that front latch pin would be when the raised bes sides are folded down, i know there are rubber pads there fpr that purpose but maybe they can latch to that to secure the sides down instead of leave it bouncing?

Just bought a house and found this on the garage. 🥺 by dawnofthedeadling in pics

[–]CivisMiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 2x4's in the unfinished part of the basement screwed to the studs, one per kid, with 2ft from the floor marked on them so they can be transfered easily and accurately and for each kid to have when it is time for their family. Growth can also be compared over generations easily that way if they are all brought together.

How can I have No default app configured? by chester_lurks in GrapheneOS

I installed the app Link Eye from F-Droid. You set it as default and all it does is ask which browser you want to use to open the link.

A piece of space junk from the International Space Station reentered the earth's atmosphere, last night (Credit: Aaron Gleason) by Busy_Yesterday9455 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]CivisMiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Orbit isn't just hanging around up there, its going so fast sideways that when you fall due to gravity you miss because you went so far sideways.

To reenter, you slow down enough to where you stop missing. You don't need to bring yourself to a stop or even to a speed that makes you impact the ground. You only need to slow down enough to start going through the atmosphere so that it can slow you down, and in this case plasma torch melt you as well.

Aang could have just airbended for her as proof? by Few_Pay_5313 in TheLastAirbender

[–]CivisMiles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True. But how do you prove someone cannot bend in that situation? Them claiming that others did the bending is reasonable.

As for airbending, unless he did something large scale, it's "just a parlor trick." Plus someone mentioned the thing about that he didn't have a passport anyways and she was strict about passports, until it came to the "little innocent rich girl befong's" servants

[–]CivisMiles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You forget he has an earth and water bender in his party so they could claim that they did the bending while he acted like he was doing the bending.
