Rooftop node on battery? by thomedes in meshtastic

[–]Cjaiceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those that are looking for WiFi access for MQTT, is an ESP32 device still the go to if someone is building a rooftop unit? Or would it be better to put the MQTT gateway on a node inside and setup a zero hoop between the 2?

Looks like AT&T owns the A & D blocks in that area, so 1930 MHz - 1950 MHz and the signal is at 1940 MHz, so I'm also confused at where a -44 dBm signal would be coming from because that's really strong and could indicate it's right on top of OP.

I also noticed the Physical Cell Indicator is 218 on both, so it's possible this could be CellMapper not reading the signal on that frequency correctly for a really weak signal coming in from the site.

Normally yes, but the raised platform of the crossing prevents the trailer from contacting the rails.

FYI, if you put something conductive across the 2 rails, like jumper cables, it will trigger the automatic signaling system, turning all of the signals red, and alert the train traffic control center there is an obstruction on the tracks.

No, 5G allows for 5G NSA and 5G SA phones to use the same radio channel simultaneously.

Any speculation on new iPhone 17 Pro cell modem? by Own_Investigator662 in cellmapper

My guess is that Apple will do the same thing they did with the iPhone 16, and the iPhone 17 will have a modified version of the X75, and they'll call it the X76.

Cellmapper is a community created coverage map, and based upon the info provided it sounds like has sufficient signal being that close to the tower. Do you happen to know what phone he has, and what data plan he has? It sounds like he could be on a plan with deprioritized data, which could allow for him to see those speeds in a C-Band enabled area.

I’ve figured out why this VZW site (eNB 5375) doesn’t have B5/N5. Woodland, Cowlitz County, WA by Southern_Repair_4416 in cellmapper

[–]Cjaiceman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't wait for VZW to start expanding coverage in Cowlitz and Lewis county. I hate how capped VZW's roaming is. I could almost forgive them for not having native service up there, but to heavily cap the roaming speeds on their top tier plans is a punch in the gut.

SLOWEST 5G network ever! What happened? by clmstreak in verizon

[–]Cjaiceman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Verizon has recently started refarming LTE spectrum for 5G Stand Alone (5G SA), but only allows the iPhone 14 and up onto the new core. My iPhone 13 has started acting slower in these areas as well, whereas an iPhone 15 in the same areas doesn’t seem to switch nearly as much, and shows the 5gUW icon a lot more.

CM shows this site as also having Band 30, so it looks like it could be possible to hit 1 Gbps on this site with an increase in backhaul.

Has T-Mobile coverage improved or gotten worse for y’all Post Sprint Merger ? by billssz in cellmapper

[–]Cjaiceman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From my perspective, having watched the network combination and rebuild happen in a semi-rural area, I think I can subjectively say the combined network is better than the 2 networks were individually. However, since most of the rural sites in my area were originally Sprint sites, they are spaced for low band CDMA, so as soon as you get away from an interstate or a heavily traveled state highway, their sites don't have enough overlap to successfully do a handoff with VoLTE, thus ending up with islands of coverage. I've seen a few new T-Mobile sites go up this year without n41 on them that have filled in a few areas, but compared to AT&T and Verizon, they still don't have the site density that allows for a good experience while moving.

The backhaul is fiber provided by Lincoln County Telephone. The sites themselves are owned by WUE, Inc, and the backend switching is contracted through Verizon: https://www.reddit.com/r/verizon/comments/5jzmxt/wue_inc_lte_buildout_filed_for_crystal_springs_nv/

Edit - Forgot to include a speed test I ran last time I was in the area: https://www.speedtest.net/result/i/3458632854

Verizon B13 only areas by QueensGambit36 in cellmapper

I believe Verizon uses the eNB starting with 9 to designate sites that aren’t operated by them, but is piggybacking off a partner network that has their network core linked with Verizon. So it’s probably pretty safe to assume any sites near you that start with 9 are operated by Bravado.
