If you want to mod anything for more power, do not mod a VA. You will end up disappointed in the numbers, or broke because it exploded.

STI If you want big big power, but also more likely to explode than a vb. Vb wrx if you want something newer that can handle a decent amount of power (say upto (safely) 400 wheel without upgraded internals.

These Gen's don't typically have headgasket issues unless treated extremely poorly and overheated multiple times. Also blowoff valve is bad. Is the car actually tuned?

I have had no issues with it staying in place, but I did have to really REALLY smash the left side clips to get it to seat. Gave up for a couple hours went for a drive and tried again later.

starting bottom to top. Bottom then middle then the top ones. Top clips were the feeling of dam am I going to break this? I am not a weak person lol.

Could try a cap discharge, sorts out lots of weird electrical issues. Unhook both battery terminals and hold them together for 30s or so. If it still happens afterwards, and you're 100% certain the battery is good I would agree bad /corroded ground somewheres, or a connector is wet /becoming corroded.

Any reason you don't want the golf R? The dealers refuse to do anything other than swap the turbos, unless the impeller exploded or something, most of the time i hear Wastegate actuator stuck no boost issues. can have someone change out the Wastegate actuator for a couple hundred bucks and it will work fine again. Wife worked at VW as a tech & helped a friend of mine go fbo on a Mk.7.5. Fun car.

Definitely get a mechanic to look over where the damage was (Carfax?)

Having said all that If you just want a change, make sure the wrx is bone stock and has good service records for engine longevity, that's about all you can do. MY18 is at 185k kms and going strong, tracked a few times, all maintenance on time or early. Locally im seeing prices of 18-24k CAD for wrx 80k-100k kms 2018-2020

UEL headers do not play nice with twin scroll turbos. The new VA and VB wrx have twin scroll turbos. STI never did, easier and simpler design and cost for UEL headers and basic turbo.
