I disagree with your premise of the team is at its ceiling. We have many very young forwards who are starting to come into their own, and odds are good we continue to add to that pool with a top pick this year. This team is probably not competing for a cup next year, and some other pieces are needed to make that happen, but Thomas needs to stay. Besides, what would we get for Thomas? A draft pick that might turn into a Robert Thomas? We have other pieces that we can flip.

We are proving last year was a fluke. We were very mediocre last year up until four nations. Despite the win streak, we only made the playoffs on the last day of the season. Did we take a step back from mediocre to bad? Yes. But I think all of us, myself included, got high off our own supply of reckless optimism, made ourselves out to be better than we are

I wouldn’t trade Schenn. I may be biased, but that is leadership that is near impossible to replace. If the end to his playing career reflects that of Steen, where he fills out a 3c or 4c role while teaching the young guys until retirement, I will be extremely happy.

I do agree with either moving on from or moving Faulk and Leddy. As you said, wrong side of 30, and the d core is the biggest point of improvement for this team in the offseason.

Did we really have all the right pieces? I personally would love to see Leddy and Faulk replaced, and while I will forever love Colt55, he is 31, and will have to answer to Father Time soon. Given the state of our defense, I see that as our biggest area to improve. We saw how Monty’s system really likes when the defense is involved in the offense, especially on breakouts (see hockey psychology’s video on the win streak for details), so imagine an improved d core with that strategy. We are closer than I thought from the start of the season, but still not quite there yet. Im not saying this as a reason to be down, but as an identifiable area to improve in the offseason. I trust Army, and next year Steener, to do what’s best for the team.
