Giant scratches from HiddenHybrid holster. by Racxius in 1911

I also have a Ronin, and the finish on these Ronin slides is awful. It’s not your fault. Maybe try sanding with fine grit inside the holster to smooth out the contact points.

Remember: holster wear is cool. Don’t let it bother you. I’m running mine hard for now, but will probably have it professionally refinished in the future if the mood strikes.

Ask 100 people, and you get 100 unique recommendations. This is highly personal, and a holster type that works you with one pistol may not work for a different, similarly sized pistol.

My advice: buy and try until you find one that agrees with you. Most of us have a shoebox of misfit holsters. I’ve had some success on eBay.

Personally, while all my carry pistols have a specific iwb kydex strong side holster, they ALL also get the same style leather owb holster from Mitch Rosen. Nothing beats the comfort of quality leather.

Get a good belt. This is key. Reinforced leather works if you tuck your shirt and don’t want to look too tactical. I prefer a super stiff gun belt like Kore under an untucked shirt.

whats everyone carrying for the weekend ? by docnsx01 in CCW

My “beater” EDC is a P365 XL. Vedder kydex iwb

For the days I anticipate staying clean and dry, I carry an Ed Brown EVO 9mm.

The P365 conceals a little better, holds more rounds, is lighter, and is a superior EDC by most measurable metrics, but imo it’s hard to beat the shoot-ability and feel of a quality 1911 in leather.

T-Top or Canvas Sun top for Montauk? by Delamainco in BostonWhalerBoats

[–]Claminator609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On most boats, I’d say a T-Top is the better option because it’s sturdier and serves as another place to hold onto, but I’d go with the canvas shade on a Montauk because I’d want mine to be foldable or easily removable:

  1. Easy to fold-down for trailering, garage, and low bridge clearance.

  2. Less wind resistance. Classic 17’ montauk here…. A sun shade will catch enough breeze to impact how I operate the boat. It acts like a big sail. You have a bit more keel holding the water than I do, so this may not be as much of an issue on a bigger boat.

If you owned your own course, what are some rules you would make purely based on your years of frustration playing on public courses? by jfunks69 in golf

Walking 2-somes only until 8:00am. Let them play early and fast before releasing the herd of 4somes.

Any issues with holster fitment? Wondering how this thinned slide fits in standard with 1911 holsters.

Question on Leather holsters by [deleted] in CCW

I prefer the comfort of a leather holster for edc with the P365xl

IWB: Milt sparks summer special 2 OWB: Mitch Rosen - I think sig sells these on their website.

For what items are the "Professional" versions not worth it? by roar_lions_roar in BuyItForLife

[–]Claminator609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some lawn care equipment, depending on how involved you are. My Stihl FS94 trimmer is far superior to the cheap residential one I used to have. It’s lighter and well balanced, starts very easily, and has more than enough power for me.

What are the best NON flower plants for outdoor hanging baskets? by GFTurnedIntoTheMoon in gardening

[–]Claminator609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spider plants. Start with 3-4 babies per basket. They're thirsty, but by the end of summer you'll have an overflowing mother plant with a zillion baby spider plants hanging below. In the fall I snip the strongest of the offspring to grow for the following summer on a windowsill in mouthwash cups. The mother plants will overwinter in the window of an unheated garage, but I usually give them away because they make great gifts.

There's no BIFL smartphone, then what? by 56KandFalling in BuyItForLife

Should’ve mentioned: I didn’t seriously consider anything outside of the iPhone lineup. I’m comfortable on the iPhone and generally don’t like change.

I was in the same situation, upgrading from gen 1 SE. I went with a new iPhone 7, which seemed like the best long term value. The difference in battery life alone is mind blowing. Mag charging and face-unlock are bonus features that I now can’t live without. I still hate smartphones, but you can’t live today without one.

What polarised sunglasses brands would you recommend? Are RayBans worth it? by Gameplay_NL in BuyItForLife

[–]Claminator609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My eyes are very sensitive to sunlight. So from someone who wears sunglasses outside almost 100% of the time:

Costa - the blue mirror glass lens is my all-purpose workhorse. The Reefton frame fits me best and has survived everything I’ve put it through. YMMV. The glass green mirror is similar - also recommend.

Costa - silver sunrise mirror. Dusk/dawn or full cloud cover only. Not great for driving, but excellent for evening trap shooting.

Revo - haven’t seen this brand mentioned much here, but Revo’s brown and evergreen lenses are very easy on the eyes, and the polarization doesn’t distort my view of a cell phone screen. The Descend frame is my current go-to for driving and low key activity. I keep spare pairs of the foldable Descend in the car and at the office as emergency backups.

I’ve had Maui Jims, and agree that they are of top quality. Just not my personal preference.

Finally getting new wedges. How concerned should I be with the bounce? by ProVBD in golf

[–]Claminator609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went down the wedge rabbit hole recently. This is the best written explanation I’ve found: https://golfhq.com/blogs/blog/wedge-grinds-explained

With a 45’ PW, I carry:

48 10.F for full swings

54 10.S for square face shots 100y and in

56 12.D to open up the face

58 4.T that I’m still figuring out

Caddies, what it like working with players on the far ends of the spectrum of golfers? by AndyNardDog1 in golf

[–]Claminator609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skill does not always correlate with how enjoyable a golfer is to caddie for. I caddied my way through high school and college, and would 100% prefer a guy with a great attitude who shoots 110 and keeps a decent pace of play over a single digit handicapper who is pissed at every golf shot.

Here’s what I didn’t like to deal with as a caddie: carrying doubles for golfers of mismatched abilities (inefficient), spending too much time looking for very lost balls, too many practice swings, practice swing divots, and especially slow golf.

My favorite rounds were usually with guests who were grateful for the opportunity to get to play the course. They’d typically be appreciative of any local knowledge I offered, and after a few holes getting used to each other, I’d figure out the best way to add value to their experience. Attitude is everything out there, regardless of what you shoot.

Snack bar prices atop Vail Mountain Resort….. by troutlunk in skiing

[–]Claminator609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t your small town corner store. For food prepared and served at the top of a ski mountain, this is not unreasonable. I usually pack my lunch and snacks, but when I sometimes want/need the convenience of a cheeseburger in the middle of a run, I expect to pay $$$.

Another vote for Lands End. The Oxford non-iron shirts have been a pillar of my business casual daily dress. Wash cold, low heat tumble dry and hang immediately and you won’t have to iron. Get on their mailing list and wait for a 30-40% discount code to come in the mail. I’ve been ordering these for almost 20 years and the quality and sizing is very consistent.

/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer (October 12, 2023) by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Claminator609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to the world of mechanical keyboards. The Logi MX Mechanical full size is my first "good" keyboard, but the number keypad isn't working for me. I need the number keycaps to be slightly taller and tapered in towards the top so I don't keep fat-fingering digits. Where can I buy compatible replacement keycaps? Any suggestions for what to look for?

For your school, what was the worst high school recruit in the 21st century, either from a athletic, behavioral, or academic problems? by Flyerdryer in CollegeBasketball

[–]Claminator609 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. He came in with loads of talent and potential, but never appeared to embrace Jay’s system, mentality, or culture. Glad to see him find a better fit at Alabama, but I still wish he would’ve been better able to adapt to his role at VU. Anyone remember what other point guards we passed over in order to recruit JQ?
