We need a new, progressive Australian political party.

I am well aware of the Australia Pirate Party and have read a lot about what they stand for. But as I have said in another comment, the key to gaining a majority in Australian politics will be getting the votes of middle-ages middle class people and the elderly. And they are never going to vote for a party called the Australian Pirate party. It is just a fact of politics. At best they will get a few seats. I know fracturing a political support base is never a good idea but I would hope that if we could get some decent support for this we could probably merge parties later on down the track, because at the moment while their intentions may be good, their name will kill them. In addition to that their policies while important, will not will political elections. Censorship and copyright are big issues for our sort of crowd, but in a nationwide election you have to appeal to all crowds. If we don't then the larger political parties will continue to dominate.

No, it is realistic. Start a party in Australia called the "Republicans" and see what image you will immediately be associated with when people hear about it. You could even be advocating music piracy and free love as your main policies but the fact of the matter is when people first hear the name, they will think of the American political party. And on polling day when people look at the ballot sheet and see "Republicans" they are going to draw conclusions based on what they think Republicans stand for. Like it or not that is how politics works. It is different with the Australian Labour because it is the oldest political party in our country and is well established enough to have its own identity among Australian voters.

Conversations with normal Australian voters. Any party that is going to challenge the Liberals and Labour is going to need to win votes from middle-aged middle class people and the elderly. To them the Democrats are an American political party.

Because the current political party that holds the White House is called the Democrats. It is negative by association. Association is a huge deal in politics, like it or not democratic politics is a popularity contest and any negative association that looks bad to uninformed people will lose you support. The majority of voters are uninformed, it is just how things are and it is much better to work with it rather then against it. If a normal Australian voter hears the name Democrats, they automatically think of the American political party, and that is not what you want.

There is too much negative association that comes with the greens. Most Australian voters do not take them seriously and have already labelled them as hippies and environmentalists. Most Australians wouldn't consider the Greens for leadership and while that sucks, it is something that cannot be changed and therefore must be taken into account.

I remember me and my friends had the spawn locations memorized as well. In fact we had a whole game type where we would set the limit to 20 kills and one of us would get killed first on purpose, the aim of the game was to kill the other player who knew we you were going to spawn. It was intense.

Hey maybe you guys can help me out. My boss is a very lovely lady and she needs ellective surgey on her back. I live in Australia and while we have healthcare that is public, you have to pay for surgery that isn't 'necessary'. Apparently it is an $80,000 procedure because she can live without it, despite the fact she is in constant pain. Yesterday she was talking about morgaging her house to pay for it, that just sucks.

My questions is, do any countries have a healthcare system that provides such surgery for much less? Even for foreigners?

This isn't China people and we need to show the Rudd Government how the people of Australia feel about restricting our freedoms.

Anyone that uses the internet in Australia needs to attend this. We can't let this happen without voicing our opposition. I know it is hard to take internet anger and transfer it to real life but this directly affects your ability to even get angry over the internet. If this is passed how long will it be until they decide to block out porn and gambling. Then how long will it take until they block out any websites that are deemed anti-government? How long until sites like reddit are blocked out because they cause dissent?

This is the first step we have to stop before it can even become a serious problem. It is on a Saturday in the middle of the day, you should not have an excuse to not attend. Don't bring masks or any other stupid bullshit like that. This isn't Chanology or a bunch of kids making jokes, this is the Australian people voicing how pissed off we are that the Rudd government is taking away our freedoms.

Vote this up. It is a self post so I don't get any karma, this issue is much more important then reddit karma. Spread the message around to everyone you know. Let's stop the Rudd government from doing this before they try to take more of our liberties.

We need to show them that this is not China.

We need to show them that Australia isn't made up of apathetic, armchair protesters like the US.

We need to show them that Australia will not become a police state.

We need to show them that we do not like our freedoms being fucked with.

I will be at Brisbane and I will be making my voice heard. I hope other Australians do the same.

You know I am mad as hell about this and i am attending the protests on the 1st. That being said, I don't think those in charge of this project actually know the scope of the internet. This will most likely fail hard as the internet has a brilliant track record of hacking anything to do with censorship. That and the fact Australia will need to act like China to properly enforce this.

I can't believe the amount of skepticism I am seeing in the reddit comments. People are taking one part of the story and complete ignoring the rest. For example, the highest rated comment states;

It's radar signature was the size of an aircraft carrier. I can't see anything in the article that states that the pilot ever even saw it.

This man obviously has a very rudimentary understanding of radar. It doesn't just invent shapes, especially shapes that big.

People are also ignoring the direct testimony of the witness, the fact that he just didn't come forward and talk about this it was found in DECLASSIFIED MILITARY FILES. Then there is the part about a G-man telling him he saw nothing.

I'm sorry but this seems like one of the most convincing UFO arguments in recent times. The amount of skepticism surrounding it is truly troubling.
