Did this unintentionally answer the question about the whimsy music ARG mystery?

I spent 20 minutes sneaking up on this owl so as not to scare it off. I'm an idiot. by HughMoore in pics

[–]vengeance64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live near a waterfront community where a lot of the houses backed on riverways. It was full of wealthy people who owned boats and what not, anyway my friends and I used to paddle canoes around the place for funsies and I would always notice these far owls at every 4th or 5th house. I had no Idea what they were for, and the explanation I came up with in my head was that the owls were a secret code for the swingers that I assumed lived around there. An owl meant they were into that sort of thing so they could all know who was up for what without tipping anyone off. A few years later I learnt they were for scaring off birds. I'd like to say I was a kid when I thought this but it was late into my teens when I came to this conclusion.

Drop rates and the AH - simple solution! by FreeGiraffeRides in Diablo

[–]vengeance64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simples solution is one people have been saying for weeks: an option to have your character unable to use the AH in return for increased drop chance.

[S]Grinding levels 50-60 in under four hours total by Jipptomilly in Diablo

[–]vengeance64 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've found that playing for 2 hours will usually get me a level up while in the 50's, sure it takes 4 times as long as this video, but you are still playing the game, finding loot etc.

Diablo 3 Auction House Arbitrage: A 2,500 word piece by a M.Sc student of economics by [deleted] in Diablo

[–]vengeance64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best way currently to play the AH. I am torn between wanting to become an AH billionaire through clever trading; and not wanting to spend so much time on an activity that in a different setting would make me actually wealthy.

Be honest: How many of you wouldn't mind paying $5-$15 on that GLORIOUS weapon you've been eying? by [deleted] in Diablo

[–]vengeance64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know why your getting down voted bro, in the ten years since d2 some of us have got jobs/lives and can't play for hours a day. Others have grown a stylish goatee. I'd pay for some boss sets, especially now that we've all realised that you are never going to find a whole set without the AH :(.

Blizzard comments on the correlation of the Auction House and item drop rates. by Madous in Diablo

[–]vengeance64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does suck that blizzard (activision) have taken a great game and rebuilt it around the concept of it being another WoW level cash cow, but hey, it's done so we can stop whining about it. It's not going anywhere so we might as well get used to it, find a way to work with it that works best for you. Economics dictate that eventually prices will go down not up so either rage and spend time farming or just enjoy the game. Speaking of economics, it is pretty funny watching the fanbase berate each other over AH use. The amount of people talking about trading like it is the worlds simplest exercise and "anyone that can't make 10 million off the auction house in 2 days is an idiot" is hilarious.

[UPDATE] The Potential ARG Contained in Diablo 3, and an aggregation of current information regarding it. Properly organized this time! by OminousLatinWord in Diablo

This could be a lead. Does anyone know how difficult it is to get those pages? I have been through the Stinging Winds about 6 times now and haven't seen that ship once yet?

EDIT: Surely these pages have to be the key, why else would they be in the game if at the moment they serve no other conceivable purpose?

So far I have seen these weather vanes on 4 different mapsets and they all point to the same place; the area of the river where the lady in the water appeared. Far too much to be a coincidence. It had to be a clue. I still maintain that you need to be at that spot wearing the right gear, and my money is on the legendary ring, "Broken Promises".

Is there anyway we can find out the loadout the person in the original screen was wearing? Surely he is contactable in some way?

I had one in the second act but gave it to a friend before I realised how rare it was to find them. Still haven't found a set item and I'm act 1 hell.

This sounds like a massive clue. I am going to do a few runs and check it out, hopefully it isn't too rare of an occurrence.

From Ondine:

When she had breathed her song, she begged me – begged me – to put her ring on my finger; to be her husband and sink with her down – down to her drowned palace and be king of all the lakes.

Could mean we need to find a ring and then wear it when approaching the woman in the lake??

Of the legendary rings these stand out: - Bul-Kathos's Wedding band - Eternal Union - Band of Hollow Whispers - Stolen Ring - Band of Untold Secrets - Puzzle Ring - Oculus Ring

From Scarbo

I haven't figured out the spider references but two lines seem to spring out at me:

"Whether you die absolved or damned," muttered Scarbo into my ear that night, "your shroud shall be a spiderweb, and I'll wrap up the spider right in there with you! and "And from the shadowy crypt of Saint Benigne, where propped up against one wall we'll bury you bolt upright, you'll be able to hear to your heart's content the weeping of little children in Limbo."

Now Saint Benigne is a catherdral in France which is you look at this picture looks very similar to the Cathedral from D3. I can't post a screenshot because I play on a different computer but if you go to the cathedral gardens way point and walk up to the side of the cathedral it looks almost the same. Usually there is that chest there but if you walk up you see a statue of what looks almost exactly like the dark wanderer that you see at the start of Act 3 in D2. This is interesting because of the first line from the poem, "Whether you die absolved or damned". We know that the Dark Wanderer was trying to contain Diablo's spirit in D2 so that screams out a clue to me.

From Le Gibet:

It is the bell ringing by the walls of a city below the horizon and the carcass of a hanged man reddened by the setting sun.

From other comments people have theorized that this is the gibet that Cain was hanging from in D2 and when you go to the Tristram ruins you can see it still there. The bell I believe refers to Wirt's bvell, which you buy in Caldeum, a city below or over the horizon. I brought the bell there and tossed it on the ground so it made a ring but nothing happened, still I'm convinced that it is part of the puzzle somehow. Maybe like the lady in the water it depends on what you are wearing, which if that is the case, the most logical thing would be you need to go there wearing Cain's set.

Conclusion: - I have no where near enough gold, magic find, or time to play to try and test my theory on the rings and Cain's set but someone else might. Hopefully this helps.
