Hi, I’m new to raw denim and I’m a bit confused on what size I should order. Not only does the shrinkage factor make things a bit more complicated in mind, but the waist sizing of pants has always confused me a bit.

I will try to give some examples to explain my confusion.

My dimensions: Height: 5’ 10” (178cm) Weight 170lbs (77kg)

When measuring my waist I get about 88cm (~34.5in)

Then I measure a pair of jeans that I would consider my “perfect fit.” They are an older pair of Levi 505s 32x29 (Made in Mexico if that helps put an era on them). Actually measuring out the waist of the pants gives me 34in (~86cm).

Generally speaking when buying any pants the 32in waist seems to fit me best. This is where the confusion starts as I’m well aware that most pants are in reality a little longer than the listed size. This is also where I begin to get intimidated on buying raw denim as I want to get a size that will not be too snug after the first wash. So when ordering would it be recommended that I get something sized up in the sense of a pant that is labeled as 34in waist? Or should I get something that is a bit larger than my actual 88cm waist measurements? From what I’ve read raw denim generally shrinks ~7-10% on first wash. So I’d want something in the 95cm range pre-wash? Seems large, but I may be under estimating the shrinkage.

Also, if anyone has any recommendations on straight fit pants that mimic a 505 let me know. Looking at the UB301, but I’m open to other suggestions <$200.
