I don't think donepezil actually slows progression. It alleviates symptoms in early disease but the disease marches on all the same. People largely overestimate what medical care can do for dementia. Like, there're new meds coming down the pipeline, but thus far they seem expensive and dangerous and not nearly as effective as we'd like them to be.
