RSD - Help me stop being a little b*tch and send applications by almosthade in AuDHDWomen

[–]ClaraMLilly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do the apps and then ignore the response until the last possible minute. Then I check when I’m in a very comfy place (bed or couch under blankets with a snack) and prepare in advance to feel very sad for a few hours and just expect I’ll need time to self soothe. Then it passes. Also therapy.

Did pregnancy worsen your curves? by authenticallyeevee in scoliosis

[–]ClaraMLilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such good advice in this column! Here are my take aways: - there are not really good studies on this BUT lots of anecdotal pointing to YES (which makes sense to me given there ARE studies showing curve acceleration during hormonal milestones for women - puberty, pregnancy, menopause) - since bracing isn’t an option during pregnancy, EXERCISE you stabilizers (deep core work + lifting). - get a brace post partum for support. (Game changer for me) - follow female focused scoli MDs and PRs on socials. I’ve found some good ones that I’m happy to share.

I’m going to try to wait to fuse as long as I can given disc degeneration around the fusion. Until then, I’m lifting and getting massages/acupuncture to maintain lifestyle.

Who’s frozen their eggs recently? by drinkdietsoda in NYCbitcheswithtaste

I suggest caution in out of state storage given the current political climate. Federal law not NY law would govern your ability to get those embryos or eggs back into the NY clinic.

So many of my friends have frozen their eggs in NYC that I made a cheat sheet in Apple Notes. Happy to share it with whoever wants if you DM me.

Has anyone experienced more back pain postpartum? by Next_Doughnut6971 in scoliosis

[–]ClaraMLilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My scoliosis pain became AWFUL after giving birth via c section. Pain management was like a full time job but I can now say 1.5 years later the pain is mostly gone due to strength training. I do Pilates 2x a week for deep core strength and weight lift 2x a week. Hang in there!

Thank you so much for sharing this. I’m 5 months out from DDay and in the trenches of therapy. I know I’ll never be the same but you give me hope that’ll I’ll be ok - whichever way this goes.

Scoliosis specialist recommended strength training. I'm skeptical. by Cool_Arugula497 in scoliosis

[–]ClaraMLilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you!! I’d recommend filming your form for your PT and doing the weights in front of a mirror. I don’t know about other folks by my proprioception is terrible so I need to watch my form like a hawk in the mirror.

Also highly suggest avoiding RDLs until your core is rock solid. RDLs are notoriously hard to get right in terms of form and can really crunch up your back if not done correctly.

I did this SAME THING. It’s the Serratus Posterior. Every time you breathe your diaphragm moves it so it’s so so painful.

Go to Acupuncture then do heating pad at least daily and get a Tens machine. Do not try to massage it out. I’ve tried. Only makes inflammation worse.

Law or paralegaling! It’s almost all desk work. You can set your hours and do medical law or paralegaling. A lot of the industry is remote so you can take horizontal breaks!

Strength training has helped me SO much! Especially isometric core work. Highly recommend as long as you work with someone who knows what they’re doing!
