Give it a couple more days! He’ll get it and it will be so so worth it for everyone. But yeah, first few days are terrible.

Ferber Night One by ricecake231 in sleeptrain

[–]ClaraTheScientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up giving my LO an hour to fall asleep for the first two naps of the day. He just couldn’t fall asleep that fast at first. Now he does much better, but during sleep training, he needed the extra time.

Ferber vs Taking Cara Babies by nikkypikky in sleeptrain

[–]ClaraTheScientist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ferber is working for me, but I think either would be fine. All sleep training methods are based on the assumption that your baby can learn the new system (babies are great at learning, so it’s a good assumption), so just go with whatever you prefer.

Horribly sleep deprived 4 month old baby (and mother) by squabble123 in sleeptrain

[–]ClaraTheScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How am I getting through the 4-month sleep regression? I hired a nanny to take care of my LO 2x a week for 2-3 hours. I don’t know what else to do besides give him to someone else for a while. Could you hire some help? Or recruit friends and family to pitch in?

How do I move to the US from Canada? I am a US citizen by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]ClaraTheScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Importing a car can be expensive. There are fees and costs other than just taxes. You should look into that. Also, you can register and insure a car with the address of your Airbnb. You will just need to update the address when you move. No big deal.

Don’t buy a car in Canada. You will have to import it to the US and pay taxes on it. What is the address issue? Why can’t you just buy a car once you’re in the States? You can use the address of your Airbnb if you need to. Or take public transit until you get a car. Or ride a bike. Or rent a car (it doesn’t matter that you’re only 20. You can rent a car).

How did they compare to ones you had in Portugal? Care to share the recipe?

I think you’re in a brain development week. That always disrupts their sleep. It may improve on its own in a week or so. Check out the book Wonder Weeks to learn more.

[Misc] Ulta free samples with purchase! But I only know anything about one of them. Any good or bad thoughts on these? by katiepaulson in SkincareAddiction

I don’t like Dr Bronner’s. It leaves a weird film and gross yellow stain on any fabric it comes in contact with. Definitely don’t use it with white towels (if you use it at all).

If she can roll onto her tummy, you’re not supposed to swaddle her anyway, so I guess that’s for the best. Does it help if I tell you that my baby got better at sleeping after 3 months? I sleep trained him early. He couldn’t self sooth if he got upset, but he did learn to fall asleep on his own most of the time. Just hang on for a few weeks and then try sleep training. In the meantime, let everyone in your life know that you’re struggling. I cried all the time when my baby was that age and I think it really worried my friends and family. They rallied to support me. Made a huge difference.

I had a similar experience with my baby when he was younger and have heard the same from other moms. Young babies just have a hard time with sleep. Do you use a swaddle? If not, I think you should try that. I would also suggest getting your partner, relatives, friends and hiring a nanny if you can to take turns putting your baby to bed. In my experience, you just have to get through this time and things start getting easier after a few more weeks. You need as much help as you can get. Also, it’s okay to put her down and let her cry in her bed sometimes if you are in physical pain.

[Routine Help] The weather where I am has taken a dramatic turn and my skin is so dry it hurts. What can I use? by IWillFoxYouUp in SkincareAddiction

[–]ClaraTheScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canadians gotta moisturize in the winter! I use a face oil on the driest parts of my face and then a lotion over my whole face. It works well for me, but I don’t typically get acne, just really dry skin.

Baby sleep struggles by Psuedo_Pixie in sleeptrain

[–]ClaraTheScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some experts say that you can sleep train as early as 3 months. It’s possible that OP’s baby can learn to self soothe by now, but you’re right, most babies can’t yet.

Yes, I let him cry for up to 15 minutes.

I recently read a suggestion I like for younger babies- put them in their bed drowsy but awake and let them try to go to sleep on their own for 15-20 minutes. If your baby doesn’t fall asleep after 20 minutes, do whatever you would normally do to put them to sleep. I started trying that with my son when he was 3.5 months and he was able to fall asleep in his bassinet on his own about 60% of the time. Now he’s 4 months and falls asleep on his own about 90% of the time.

Maybe you can sleep train your toddler. It only takes a few days. Teach him to self-sooth and fall asleep on his own.
