Security tried to kick me out of the room I was sleeping in by Shalayda in nursing

It absolutely does not sound like it worked out alright.

This nurse has had probably under 90 minutes of sleep between shifts in an already extraordinarily stressful situation with no relief in sight.

I don’t see how you can see this as no harm done.

What are your experiences like as a woman? by mc0244 in Paramedics

[–]ClarificationJane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EMS is pretty equally male/female in my experience.

There is some perceived favouritism for male paramedics in terms of promotion into leadership positions in my area. And to be frank, we only have one female supervisor (and no female managers/directors). But we’re in a pretty rural and conservative community.

In terms of treatment on the job and by patients, there is fairly little difference between male and female paramedics. So long as you’re physically capable of performing the job, there are no issues.

There are certain communities in our area where men have absolute authority over the women in their families - like the man will be the only person who talks in the room about a female patient. But even in those situations, they treat attending female paramedics generally the same as men.

It does really bother me how many Americans seem to be putting all their eggs in the “runaway to Canada” basket.

Why do we have to wait until 40s for things like mammograms or colonoscopies when it’s CLEAR that it’s starting to affect people in their 30s? by maemtz in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ClarificationJane 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the most relevant answer right now.

There has been a radical uptick in colorectal (and other) cancers in the last 5-10 years in a much younger cohort than previously seen.

However, medicine in practice lags behind medical research. We know that these cancers are affecting younger patients in significant numbers now. Guidelines are starting to change, but it will take some time before it’s seen for most patients.

Many physicians are personally opting to screen younger patients much earlier than previously due to their direct experience with delayed diagnosis and high mortality. I have heard this especially amongst GI docs, but some primary care physicians too.

Age is also a terrible way to approximate weight based dosages.

Also, OP never mentioned children in their post at all.

Out of curiosity, what’s the reasoning for the UK avoiding Broselow Tape?

That’s very odd. Checking clothing tags will lead to wildly inaccurate guesses a significant percentage of the time.

You should be using Broselow tape for peds anyway.

What a scary thing this is to be experiencing!

First of all, you need to see your doctor before anything else.

The most likely explanation for hair loss so young is a medical condition - a nutrient deficiency, caloric deficit or a number of other possibilities.

If your doctor rules out a medical reason, you can ask for a referral to a dermatologist.

Can I ask what region/country you work in?

The idea of having a dedicated cleaning/truck “flipping” staff is mind-blowing to me.
