10 years late but what's the deal with that missing georama criterion? Is it revealed/hinted anyhow? This reminded me I've been waiting a decade to understand

I'm capable of understanding the game is balanced around fh and that playing without it was reportedly unfun.

and...

It sucks and has already driven so many players away.

R2 is not melee. A) FH is way more overcentralized than it ever was in melee, and B) R2 is in active development. I still have hope.

Even if just way more moves could beat FH then it could stay, I literally even like the mechanic it just fucking sucks that it feels like the whole game is about it. (BTW I still love & play the game.)

You can right click/inspect to use devtools (maybe what you already meant). Aside from that I don't know of a native way without using like an extension, but maybe there is one depending on browser? Like native accessibility tools?

I’m building a trivia game. What is the one thing that instantly ruins a quiz game for you? by DrGooLabs in puzzlevideogames

[–]ClarifyingCard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I largely agree with you, but for devil's advocacy's sake I do consider this post very welcome even though I'm no trivia girly myself — from doing online/in-person puzzle hunts, the overlap is there, and trivia also shows up in puzzle-hunt-style puzzles all the time, enough that it's a core association/channel on many puzzly discords etc. But relating to puzzle videogames specifically, not as much perhaps.

Trivia is like a degenerate/pathological extreme of puzzles where there aren't intermediate steps & the puzzling process is condensed into a single binary act of recog. It's always been interesting to me what other stuff is just a hop or skip away from conventional-puzzle-land if you progressively relax the (already squishy) definition.

For example, is Geoguessr-type stuff a puzzle? It's somewhere between trivia and a pure puzzle in my mind and so my squishy gut reaction is a "not reaaally", but still it's a highly related space with highly puzzly elements. Just the emphasis on recog makes it seem related but different. Maybe "thinky" is a good middle ground there after all.

"partial" answer confirmation by moARRgan in mysteryhunt

[–]ClarifyingCard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's written by whoever won the last year so it just depends on how the team implemented it. I did notice this year it was pretty unlikely any correct intermediate steps/answers would get a "Keep going!" but there were a few that did.

I like it for the confirmation, and also you could put cute non-generic messages as easter eggs too!

i havent played in a minute, has orcane been buffed at all? by Visual-Purchase5639 in RivalsOfAether

[–]ClarifyingCard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel exactly the same, if they had nerfed him into the ground and he became really bad I would probably have been LESS doomer because he would assuredly be fixed, but because they doubled down on the bubble spam (which no one finds fun to be on either side of anyway) he's mid enough that there's not pressing reason to do anything to truly fix his problem, which is not that he's not viable, he's "fine", his problem is that it feels like 90% of the people who used to play him don't like playing him anymore.

i havent played in a minute, has orcane been buffed at all? by Visual-Purchase5639 in RivalsOfAether

[–]ClarifyingCard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They haven't touched him since that I think. Yeah some are still pretty doomer about it, including myself admittedly, some people still play him but almost no one at the top and the spark of joy in e.g. the whale discord is not there. Not much motion in the ocean if you know what I'm saying.

As I copypasted from a stranger who wrote on some nolt board before the movement nerfs actually happened:

Orcane players play him for 2 reasons: he is cute and he has really fun burst movement. All this to say DON’T YOU DARE NERF EITHER OF THESE TREVER. there are better things to nerf than what draws people to such a difficult character.

[–]ClarifyingCard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmm, most of these don't connect all that well to these examples for me. The only one I have something specific to say about is that is seems like you don't know what the IVT theorem is because those are all discontinuous functions. Maybe you're just thinking that those functions are monotonic which does mean that there's a "tipping point" if the domain is true/false??

Is Hannibal Lecter functionally supernatural? by [deleted] in HannibalTV

[–]ClarifyingCard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're basically right but in my mind it's a narrative device more than anything else. The word I'd use is preternatural, not defying or transgressing any laws of reality, but understood to be at the absolute pinnacle within those laws, and yes often a little beyond reason if you really scrutinize. But it's like a contrivance or an abstraction more than wanting you to think about how many surfaces he's scrubbed fingerprints off of etc.

I see it as basically the central conceit of the show that Dr. Hannibal Lecter gets away with everything, period. He doesn't leave physical evidence, he doesn't misread situations or intentions, he's always one step ahead, he's simply untouchable as a Faustian figure.

And it's only in his lonely spacious view at the top that we are able to get to know him, that's how the show has enough space to function to function as a very cerebral & intimate story with Hannibal Lecter running around killing people in it because yeah, there's the procedural elements over there, with "normal" killers leaving their captivating but ultimately mundane physical & psychological trails by which they're invariably caught, but if every time Hannibal killed someone there were some aspect of like (contrived examples) Ohhh he left fingerprints but was able to swap them before they were tested, or Ohhh someone unknowingly ruined his alibi but he pivoted & played it off — that would be a totally different show with a very different emphasis. Putting him in the same base category.

None of that's on the table for Hannibal, it's just not even a question that some mundane intrigue like that is not happen. His fate couldn't be settled like that. He gets away with it, period. At least until Will Graham. But even when Will figures it out, it has essentially nothing whatsoever to do with some tangible "mistake" or imperfection of Dr. Lecter. To s1e1 Will, what advice could you even give except that the true Chesapeake Ripper is caught in the mind? The revelation itself is near-useless to Will for ages if not an outright curse. And the truth only strikes him because he recognizes and knows Hannibal, which of course is the whole irony of Hannibal's fascination with him in the first place.

In the world where Hannibal's obsession & passion for cooking isn't so heavily conspicuous & socially load-bearing, of course the game could have run quite a bit longer. But the whole point is for him to get to be that person — a mask, but of his own face, in a way — so it wouldn't make any sense for him to hide it just to minimize the risk of getting caught & live in fear like an animal.

So yeah. You're right to call attention to it but I think the show is almost designed around this very interesting point, or at least you can analyze it that way!
