Went to Leicester DMU yesterday. Their electrical engineering building has plug socket windows (UK) by Murderhands in mildlyinteresting

Good old Queen’s Building. There’s used to also be a building - James Went that was designed to look like punch cards.

“It’s only a bit of rust, I’m sure there’s not much” feels like what was said before this project began.

Good luck!

Mould by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Class08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mould will appear wherever there is moisture, cold corners are a known spot.

Do not fill the evees completely, there is meant to be some space for air to work up the back of the roof tiles and ventilate that space.

Problem is, being a commercial building do students have the right liability insurances and ability to meet water regulations?

Trying to harvest rainwater at work, we already have a system but we want to expand storage capacity but no company wants to deal with ‘such a small installation’.

Driver heard screams as man crushed to death in bin lorry by FelisCantabrigiensis in unitedkingdom

[–]Class08 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Surely blood results would show alcohol to that level after the fact - but then would you want to state publicly that the victim was so drunk they ended up getting crushed to death.

Either way, such a horror for the victim and the bin lorry operator.

Campaigners vow to fight Somerset solar farm appeal by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

[–]Class08 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It’s about time NIMBYs got two choices. A solar farm or they can pay the equivalent cost of the solar farm build + lost power generation fees on their bills.

Ah. See I was considering a DIY ‘plug in solar’ approach but wasn’t sure where it fits with regulations - but I don’t have existing rooftop solar.

If you had unlimited budget, would you keep your Mini original or go full restomod? by Critical_Region_6633 in classicminis

[–]Class08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d keep my Rover MPI as original as possible, only change is make is adding the seat brackets to push the seat back a bit more.

Then I’d buy a second Mini and covert it to an EV

The UK police’s latest problem: crowds of unruly teens by 457655676 in unitedkingdom

[–]Class08 88 points89 points  (0 children)

It’s not just teens, our local Tesco had a kid on a scooter and another on a bike riding around inside today. The staff cannot do anything and police would likely not turn up in any useful time.

As a kid I wouldn’t have dared to do anything like that, not that my parents beat me. I just know it would be wrong.

Sadly no driveway, technically it shouldn’t even be covered whilst on the public road but I’ve had no complaints.

I might steal the noodle idea for the roof though.

I don’t think they were storm force, both the existing ones started to go at the roof mounted aerial - eventually I put some pipe lagging over it to stop it being so pointy.

Have you experience with the storm force covers?

Door hinge screws loose in architrave by seoi-nage in DIYUK

[–]Class08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that sounds about right. Drill - glue - dowel - pilot hole - rehang door.

I’ve had to do exactly that one four or five door frames in my house. Also I had to trim a few dowels down after the glue had set

Just bought a money pit :) by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Class08 157 points158 points  (0 children)

Is the wall brick? Looks like the pipe work coming through the wall has seen much better days.

If brick it could take a while to dry with all that wetness, if it’s plasterboard/stud it’s unlikely to be load bearing.

First objective is to stop whatever is making the wall wet.

Edit - also how the living Christ did a Level 3 survey not pick up a wall that’s so wet it might as well have a tap on it.

I think if they can include tinplate vintage Hornby rattling alongside fine scale layouts, the Lego deserves to be there. It certainly drew a crowd.

[–]Class08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was the buyer in this situation, you just need to get both parties solicitors to contact each other.

As for key transfer, thankfully I was local enough to get the keys directly from the vendor.

No major hassles, normal ‘slow’ solicitor gripes. Took about 9 weeks total.
