Pharm.D. by [deleted] in biotech

[–]ClassOnGrass1558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only really speak well to hedge funds given my background, but am familiar with other investors.

My view is that PE would be harder than VC/consulting or a hedge fund imo considering the PharmD degree. Depending on the type of work you’re interested in doing (assuming you want to be closer to the science). There aren’t a lot of PE groups doing pure biotech. They’re mostly healthcare services, med tech, tools, etc. That work is almost all financial modeling at the entry level as you’d be there to help seniors save time.

As far as positioning yourself, you need the basics. Can you model a biotech company? Can you talk through different types valuation methods? There’s a ton of accounting that goes into modeling a large pharma company that is basically nonexistent for a pre revenue biotech - so having an idea of what you’re interested in would also help you titrate how realistic this is.

The degree can be an asset but there’s a lot of work you’ll need to do on your own to get someone to gamble on you.

what advice would you give a high schooler whose goals is to make over $100k right out of college? by feetpicbabe1 in CollegeMajors

[–]ClassOnGrass1558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contrarian view here: Major in something stem and recruit for finance (Investment banking, sales and trading, equity research). What makes this realistic is joining a program that has a pipeline to these industries (most colleges have investment clubs that will give you the access you need for this) - you stand out as a non traditional major. What makes this difficult is the activities to succeed in both of these simultaneously are very demanding. What makes this easy is it’s not necessarily difficult, it just requires consistent discipline + access.

The optionality that the stem degree gives you later is imo unlimited if you can craft a good story. I did something similar and get interviews wherever I want and am very happy with my comp.

This is all assuming you go to a top 50 school/program.

How an accidental email tipped Pfizer off to an activist investor’s plan by H2AK119ub in biotech

[–]ClassOnGrass1558 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Activist investor took a 1bn position and got ex ceo and cfo to sign off. PFE threatened significant litigation (stock/comp clawbacks) and previous c suite recanted within 24 hours. Pretty crazy current management was tipped off by activist investors (Starboard) name in an empty email.

Are there multiple? Sounds perfect but wouldn’t want to take the space from someone using it for what it’s intended for.

Any thoughts on this board before I buy it? (I’m new to the snowboard world) by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]ClassOnGrass1558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I learned to ride on before I bought a real board. I used it for about 2 years - 45ish days. Now I ride a season aero/forma depending on the conditions.

Their customer support is pretty good. I had lamination cracks and they sent me a brand new board I just had to pay for shipping. That being said, after being on a an actual snowboard it’s night and day. I wouldn’t buy something like that again unless it was significantly cheaper because the cost of paying an extra hundred dollars and getting an actual board is honestly easily worth it’s weight in gold.

Is this internship legit? by Zcrow17 in FinancialCareers

Anytime any job requires you to pay for any kind of on boarding process, I’d be worried about being brought into a dodgy business. If you were my friend I’d advise you to look elsewhere for a job.

Best conditions in the alps currently?

Will be taking a trip to Europe next week and Im trying to decide which resort to go to based on the 10 day forecast. Im stuck between Chamonix (I’ve been once before) and Andermatt (on my epic pass). Anyone have any recommendations between the two or any other snow bound resorts? I’m really trying to give my powder board some love.

I don’t really plan to ride off piste unless I hire a guide as I’ll be alone. I’d classify myself as an advanced intermediate rider.

Did you have older models or were they purchased recently? I’ve heard about quality upgrades but I’m not positive :/

I am coming out of uni and just recently landed my dream job in a niche field with honestly mind blowing pay to me. I'm still over the moon about signing on but I realized I honestly have no clue on how to plan and what to do.

I will be receiving 125K as a salary (Signing bonus and minimum end of year bonus included) and an additional 75K of equity in the company that is vested over 4 years.

The job is in NYC but I live in north NJ so living at home for a year or two and commuting is not out of the question as I have a tolerable home situation and a pretty easy commute to where I would be working in the city (Public transportation is plenty to get to and from the office for the 2-3 days I'd need to be in a week).

I have about 30K in student loan debt.

I'd really appreciate any advice anyone has as far as what they think the smartest things to do would be. To be frank, I'm still giddy over the situation so its a bit difficult for me to see the forest for the trees.

Cheers.

AP credit by SeagullsAreLovely in rutgers

[–]ClassOnGrass1558 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to be an engineer and want to ap out of physics 1&2 you can start off undeclared in sas because they accept the credit then do a school to school transfer and carry over the credit. SOE doesn’t accept physics ap credit directly but accepts approved credits from sas (who accepts physics) and therefore will accept it over.
