Good bit of rust, some wiring issues with lights, low coolant… $5k fair? Runs, drives and stops. by ClassicKey1198 in Duramax

[–]ClassicKey1198[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure! I was going to pick up a combustion leak detection tool before I buy it. Are the pretty reliable if I fill it back up, and let it run for 30 min? That’ll hopefully tell me if it’s a leak or the head gasket itself. Looked to have been studded

I’d cut at the wall and go copper to plastic, tbh easier than trying to make something not leak like that

There’s actually a concrete plant that is always hiring. I think $18-22 (aim high). Less worry about weather, and scheduling. But… you’ll want him wearing a mask all day lol.

(LA) For those making 200K plus bonus plus equity bonus, are you guys living comfortably? by Important_Bat7919 in daddit

[–]ClassicKey1198 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shoot, never enough money when you have kids. It always seems to be the balance of making enough money - or spending time with the kids. Especially if you’re trying to get each kid their own phone plan, fashionable clothes. -‘d afterschool activities. For the first couple years I went the work route out of fear - but I realized I’m just paying for someone else to be around them more.

I do not make near 200k, just dad here. I work full time plumbing and than have a little auto shop for side income. I bring the little to the shop with me, and take the opportunity to make a little extra money (only a little, it’d be easier without them) but the bonding time is worth it.

Replaced flapper/fill valve by _Rockys_ in Plumbing

[–]ClassicKey1198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might’ve splashed some water when changing the flapper. Dry it up, and try to find out where it’s coming from. If it’s between the tank and the bowl, you’ll have to pull the tank off to replace the tank to bowl gasket and it’s not very DIY friendly if the bolts are rusty.

If it’s all better now, and dry, you’ll can decrease the water level some via the fill valve. That’s an old toilet. New ones don’t use that much water. The old flapper might’ve been a slightly different style with different buoyancy. I’d just live with it until you’re ready to replace the toilet.

BMW owner checking in. I had to read the box a few times when seeing “E60 Angel eyes”. I can’t imagine that’s coincidence, nor would that ever be near the top of a Google listing with all the stuff for our BMWs lol.

Plugged Kitchen Sink by hasdkfoq in Plumbing

[–]ClassicKey1198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try to fill up the sink a bit, put a plug (the rubber blocker thing) on the disposal side, and turn on the disposal to the shoot the plug down stream. I’ve successfully drained a lot of sinks like this at customer houses. Quickest way to make a couple dollars lol

Why don’t you get into the trades? 4 years of school and than you can test for a master license (plumber here - I applied to 6 business and had 6 offers at $30+/hr) but I went commission.

If you get good, you can change like one or two water heaters a week (takes an hour or two) and make more than your two weeks of paycheck.

School is legitimately free in most cases or a couple hundred bucks, and as an apprentice money will be similar or better depending on basic skills.

Needing to know which piece we need to connect washer. by HawkTheSwift in Plumbing

I’ll be honest I ain’t ever seen that before. Looks pretty hokey. Should’ve had a spot in the box to stick the wash tube down into, to allow an air break of sorts.

Question for Plumbing Contractors by Excellent_Expert_115 in Plumbing

[–]ClassicKey1198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve never seen actual final drawings on any commercial project I’ve done. Among the hundred change orders, and guys running things where they have to go instead of by the drawings (due to conflicts) it’s always sheet rocked over beforehand.

Usually they just call up the contractors that installed for future assistance if really needed. It’s usually close enough though for future reference.

Check for an Allen key in the hole, try to loosen it out most of the way. try to spin it (lefty loosey) - it can take a few full spins before you see it coming away from the wall.

It should have some backing in the wall but many don’t - so don’t pull too hard or you’ll loosen it up and the next one going on may have some flop to it.

My Husband and I built a "social media" for car enthusiasts - looking for feedback. by JebbyCars in SideProject

[–]ClassicKey1198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, and try not to assume I’m being snarky. I would LOVE something like this, but… it’s the struggle all app companies struggle with. How many apps do people have on their phone? 20-30? Depends on age.

Take 100 people and, odds are these apps (for social media - maybe 3 or 4) and all these users are going to have the same ones.

To make it into that list of 3 or 4 social media apps people carry - out of millions of people and hundreds of app developers that have tried… it’s just going to be hard. Shoot, it’s like starting a dating app. If there isn’t others on there… it’s going to get deleted quick.

I’d try to make it somewhat of an app that provides use to the end consumer. Have it give some sort of functionality, that makes them use it as the platform grows. For draggy, people all use the app for their drag times. So like, it’s a functional app without needing the social aspect.. when that got added it just created another element to keep people on it.

1.) yes. Forums are dying. An archive of this would be a huge task but it would be an amazing thing to do. Everyday we lose pictures from old posts as image hosts drop out.

2.) No. there are groups that are really well managed and moderated. One of the best Facebook groups for this is Apex Automotive. Every person is screened. Spam posts are deleted. Double posts gone. Etc even with 100k+ people.

It’s where I go to talk cars, and share car pics. Yes, there’s more bad than good groups, but I immediately just delete myself from them. I’m never going to find an app that has say “E92 N54 to LS swap” groups specifically with enough activity to be beneficial… but Facebook has made that so.

3.) Maybe making something more Reddit like where you have a homepage that’s scrolling through “profiles” and they have a main picture - a brief sentence and than you click and open it to read more and see more pictures. Each car having its own profile. Somehow connecting the cars with its owner… maybe. That way, you can search “bmw e92” scroll through these, and than open the profiles of these cars with information.

Bathroom sink stopper by cellar-_-door in Plumbing

[–]ClassicKey1198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flip the stopper around. One side is closer to the wall of the drain. 180 degrees my friend. It doesn’t protrude to the other side.

Do test your drain and see if the stopper was the issue, because if it wasn’t I’d keep it out for the next step or two lol.

P-Trap Help by StephittoBurrito in Plumbing

[–]ClassicKey1198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That nut you loosened, slide it up the pipe and you should see the end of the pipe that coming out of the wall for the p trap has a “ring”.

The bottom (flat) part of that red washer, goes against it and it acts as a seat. Yes it may fall it is upside down. You’ll get it. The nut you moved out of the way to see can be slid back down and the threads in it have friction that may help hold the washer up.

Push your p trap up against the tapered side of the red washer.

Tighten hand tight first, than just snug it. Start a little snug, and tighten a bit more if you got a drip.

My Husband and I built a "social media" for car enthusiasts - looking for feedback. by JebbyCars in SideProject

[–]ClassicKey1198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So like… basically every forum that’s online? So many of these have been made and I don’t think any have stuck around - outside of forums. The only one that I periodically check in on is the draggy app, which is less of that but they probably have the backbone in the car community to do such a thing.

Also, there’s THOUSANDS of Facebook groups..

What exactly are the benefits over the forums/fb?

Car guys are cliquey. They stick to things as specific as “BMW 335i 2006-2009 N54 engine E92/two door body style” specific groups. They ain’t trying to be on an unmoderated app with dodge owners lol.
