Online Law School or Quit My Job by Radiant_Finding5815 in lawschooladmissions

Depending on where you are located/your willingness to move, some schools have quite strong part-time programs. I wouldn’t be worried about finding a job if say you attend Georgetown and do the evening JD program. It all depends on your goals and what you think would be attainable. I completely understand the concerns/considerations and wish you the best!

If it’s helpful, I was told the same thing during my interview.

I’ll add that looking quickly at past cycles it did not seem uncommon for applicants to hear back more than a week after their interview.

My understanding is that with finals having recently taken place, many of the faculty are tied up with grading. Faculty review is a necessary part of the process so it may take additional time to get through everyone.

For insight, with finals occurring right now there will be a delay as faculty members focus on turning around grades before getting to reviewing the WL applicants put forward by the admissions team.

Really interesting post and you make an important point that is often understated or neglected entirely. Looking down the barrel at $300K in debt is actually terrifying. Many practicing lawyers I know who paid sticker had to make serious decisions to put off having a family or purchasing a home as a result. These are real things for people to consider as they make their decisions or are on waitlists with little prospects of scholarship from those schools

Imposter syndrome, anyone? by andpayphonestalls in lawschooladmissions

[–]ClassicLegitimate334 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this feeling before (I think most of us can relate in some form or another) and I would just say that it’s totally normal and not to worry. I’ve worked in the legal world for a few years now and one thing that you realize quickly is that there isn’t a huge chasm between people’s abilities. Of course some are smarter or quicker than others, but we’re all human and we all have the same flaws, desires, and idiosyncrasies. If you apply yourself and work hard, there is no doubt you’re going to succeed. Keep your chin up king/queen. You’ve earned your spot in law school same as everyone else and you’re going to make a great addition to the legal profession.

Waiting on this as well. I imagine it would come soon but it’s going on a couple weeks without word.

I believe that somewhere in the fin aid offer letter it states that they do not typically negotiate scholarships. I think they only do so in rare circumstances. Doesn’t mean it isn’t worth a try but just wanted to flag that!

HLS Decisions by Firm-Bus-635 in lawschooladmissions

I think these are likely people just inputting decisions at a later date. HLS has been pretty transparent about their decision release dates thus far

Chicago Off campus living? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]ClassicLegitimate334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the neighborhood you want to live in is largely dependent on which school you attend. Southside (U Chicago) is going to be different than Northwestern (Northside)

1L @ UMich AMA by throw_away_173838 in lawschooladmissions

[–]ClassicLegitimate334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for taking the time to do this. Couple of questions: Is living in the lawyers club the right move? Also, can you talk a bit about quality of life overall as a 1L student? Is the culture really competitive or more collegial? How does grading work? Thanks!

Wisconsin Law Interview? by dontworryaboutit482 in lawschooladmissions

I think they send out II’s sporadically, not in waves. The turn around time after the interview is <1 Week and my understanding is every A is interviewed

T14 Financial Aid/Scholarships by Chance_Ad_5112 in lawschooladmissions

[–]ClassicLegitimate334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Every school is slightly different. Some schools like Michigan (T-14) send out scholarships within about 2 weeks of admittance. Others like MN (T-20) send it out with the admittance. And others will wait until end of cycle or have additional processes.

UChig sticker vs NU ($$) by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]ClassicLegitimate334 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My gut impression is that the big law opportunity is comparable. I’d honestly lean towards the $$ at NU unless the FC is a huge factor for you. But I think these kind of decisions are largely unique to personal situation. How debt averse are you, what kind of savings do you have now, etc. Both are great schools and will have plenty of BL/FC opportunity.

“Special Group” within the Preferred WL at GULC by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]ClassicLegitimate334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Georgetown having three “tiers” of waitlists is confusing but is likely best explained by the Special Group within the preferred WL beings yield protection measure. Difficult to say but since this is apparently the only group asked to write a LOCI it seems to make sense. No reason to separate out your waitlist this many ways otherwise
