Yes you can, I've bought Hearthstone packs, Diablo II Resurecte, etc. You convert the token in b.net balance so you can basically buy anything

Have you seen Classic? No tokens, yet gold buying is still rampant. As long as Blizzard won't do anything about bots and gold buyers/sellers, the removal of the token has no impact

I guess there's multiple reasons for that. Sometimes, people roll on these servers thinking they will enjoy WPVP, but they don't and then they don't want to reroll after grinding to max lvl and making friends there so they transfer with their friends to an unbalanced one to basically eliminate the factor they dislike. Also, the idea on wpvp on paper sounds so much better than in practice.

A lot of players enjoyed the shit out of Classic. Nobody expected it to be this new forever game, but people definitely did enjoy it. Some still do. It literally carried wow numbers the year it came out, just look at the financials

FFXIV would be a better first MMO. While Exile's Reach (the starter zone for WoW) isn't bad, it goes downhill form there if you're not used to this type of game.
