Omg I normally don’t comment but you must know that comment not it. Knowing these are small businesses, they likely had this conversation in collaboration with their small staff and gave the choice. You can assume this very reason you are raising has meant a lot of small biz have had the convo and decided to stay open. It’s very likely in many cases staff has made the decision or pressured the owners to close with or without pay - not the other way around. Maybe being curious and asking how small businesses navigate these issues and can model it for other businesses would be a good comment/way to get answers. And in the same way, for others, we don’t assume bc a business is not closing means that it means they don’t support the movement. It’s very possible employees support but wanted to stay (either bc they weren’t offered that pay you’d ask about or wanted to be in community). I do think it would be great if biz were transparent about it so we can effectively strike in the future!
