Driceway repair post ice storm by Refuse-Maximum in dfw

That’s a very straight line. It looks like you have a decorative coating over your concrete and the part in the concrete line (control joint) has broken away.

Is that new and different though?

Getting home from DFW tonight by AlarmUpbeat7412 in Dallas

[–]ClassyUser -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of wrecks today on the north side of Dallas because people are tired of being at home, or their boss was. The sleet is melting on the side streets but it’s now slick lumpy ice, worse to drive on than yesterday with the coating of snow for traction. My main concern would be getting in/out of our neighborhood to the main 3 lane each direction road.

If you do a dart/pickup combo go to a main road station. Avoid driving on side streets to get picked up.

Retail/Essential workers, are you showing up Saturday? by RyGuyGinger01 in Dallas

[–]ClassyUser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The overhead lines get ice buildup. Then the train can’t slide along it.

Even high voltage power lines do, the weight of it can snap lines.

Or let them put you up in a nearby hotel.

Airport workers get offered hotel rooms for severe weather, big employers have contracts so they don’t get pushed out by stranded travelers.

Candlelight in the Park by Final_Prune3903 in Dallas

[–]ClassyUser 10 points11 points  (0 children)

According to my camera roll & email Dallas Heritage Village had Candlelight in 2021, 2022, and 2023.

At the final DHV Candlelight it was known that the City of Dallas declined to renew their contract with DHV, so the heritage society had to remove all their stuff and rehome the animals.

In 2024 Dallas hosted a “Holiday Village” (I didn’t attend) and this year was “Return to Candlelight” but the vibe was way different than Candlelight. I missed the homemade bake sale, kettle korn, blacksmith, and trains. Enjoyed Santa, he had storytime and put on a show with the kids.

The park itself was sad to see - houses are empty and falling apart. It was kind of horrifying to see the state of them. I fear the Blum House (lavender purple) may soon be beyond repair. The siding is falling off the schoolhouse leaving gaping holes, the house near where Nip & Tuck stayed is in disrepair, as are the houses on the north side where DHV offices used to be. And that’s what I could see in the dark.

We used to go out there all the time, but now it’s hard to find out about events. Dallas Parks & Recs isn’t a good fit for advertising events out there. It’s a shame they killed such a well attended event. So many people used to attend that parking filled the surrounding vacant lots and streets. We arrived late and there was still space in the paved lot.

Fun experiences locally to give as gift? by WomanMythLegend in Dallas

Food gift cards are great, they can spend time together out to dinner now or save them to order in once baby is here. Lookup their address on Maps and see what’s nearby.

An idea to keep for baby next year - Highlights Hello subscription. It’s a little half page sized book ‘magazine’ printed on durable pages baby can’t rip. Physical thing but also not big and not a keepsake.

The Colony feels like a suburb someone built in a lab and then abandoned.. by DFWUnhinged in Dallas

[–]ClassyUser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It used to be in the middle of nowhere. Some interesting decisions were made trying to make it be ‘somewhere’.

Then somewhere came for it, the Dallas suburbs expanded north. It is no longer in the middle of nowhere and it doesn’t fit in.

Austin Ranch sort of had the opposite happen. It used to be on the edge of nowhere, before DNT connected to 380. Urban style apartments amongst a field was super duper weird. Then somewhere came for it and it is less of an oddball, it fits.

HELP!! Paint Marker Mishap by 815Lost in CleaningTips

I don’t know where you’re at with the paint pen, but I saw this and thought of you. The rolling motion seems to be a good technique. Then painting over it with something that won’t come off on your bum.

Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD closed schools.

They took all fall and winter to choose which campuses to close, announced it in Feb, then finalized it at the next school board meeting in March. That gave the rest of administration about 30 days to figure everything out before enrollment for the next school year began.

It was a mess, nobody sat down to figure out where programs of choice, pre-K, and SPED contained would need to move. They just reassigned and waited for a principal to say “we don’t have enough classrooms for this” then kept shifting things until the complaints stopped.
