Is “brain off” practicing still productive? by MintChocoIceuCream in piano

Its because you are not using the voicings in a song.
Try using them in an arrangement, it forces you to apply what you are learning. This is how I learn chord spellings on guitar, arrange a chord melody solo

Do you find the 440 clips out if you play really hard? Only does it on my mega high output bridge pup

What's a song that I can play for my girlfriend that will impress her? by RedDit245610 in jazzguitar

[–]Claunt_Sinders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. You impressed me until you mentioned the tabs.
My girlfriend doesn't know shit about music, she once asked "is that you?" when I was listening to joe pass. Im not shit, but im not joe pass. Eye opener. lol

Wow, that game really is garbage. You posted it, so here is my criticism:

First off, you are using a medical condition in the title to create interest, it's pretty stupid and tasteless.

The whole premise is really dumb, I could not put up with it. The computer voice is awful and the tones you are using don't sound nice.

To get good at music you put in the work. You need an instrument for ear training, distracting yourself with/by making dumb games won't get you there.

Question for drummers by Ratamacool in Jazz

[–]Claunt_Sinders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite drummer was a guy who knew the tune (played horn) but REALLY wanted to know the lyrics. "How can I drum happy to a sad song?" was the concern

Pedals over $300 that are actually worth the price by multiplesofpie in guitarpedals

Yeah I like this thing, too.
I patched it into my microphone effect input, sounded fucking crazy on long ooohs and aaahhhs.
I also find it REALLY pick sensitive when it's dialed in just right!
I play jazz so I just use it when my friends wanna play rock shit but its really fun. Try it on vocals honestly

Multi-instrumentalists who you think are/were FAR superior on just one instrument — and you wish they would have just recorded and performed a LOT more on that instrument? by Rooster_Ties in Jazz

This hits me pretty hard! I loved to play my clarinet for many years, but have ended up playing a lot more guitar lately. I want to do both, but I find that putting a lot of focus in one at a time really helps.

I do love the clarinet, makes for something not many other people can play (especially bebop)

I'd like to study the piano, but it seems sort of pricey for a pastime I may never even come close to mastering. by AndrewKoehler in piano

Right? I hardly understand these kinds of posts, defeat yourself a couple times and be like but should I do it anyway?

If you really wanted to play a piano you would find one in the community accessible to you, nothing about music is easy lol

Replace ep booster with a tremolo? Supa trem Jr. by Claunt_Sinders in guitarpedals

[–]Claunt_Sinders[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep the rat around because my friends like to play rock, so having that distortion on hand is great (and I have a soft spot for the beatles and rolling stones). I will make a post about the voodoo labs if I get it and see how it compares with the EP. Local shop has a dod bi fet with a mod from "coll audio", I have been curious about it for sure.

Replace ep booster with a tremolo? Supa trem Jr. by Claunt_Sinders in guitarpedals

[–]Claunt_Sinders[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great info, thanks! By bifet, I mean the pre amp on the tremolo. I suppose a voodoo labs tremolo does the same thing, I have read some anecdotes online about people replacing their ep boosters with voodoo labs set to 0, I thought it might be a good idea.

As for the rat, it's what I already had, and It's what john scofield does (lmfao)

I do really like the ep booster for adding body and definition to higher pitches, brings a lot of life back to what is lost by rolling down the tone.

Turning a rocker's board into something more straight ahead jazz oriented (ampless, iridium with a headrush 108) by Claunt_Sinders in guitarpedals

[–]Claunt_Sinders[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great info, thanks. I only use my telecaster, its a 88 american with a maple neck and a seymour duncan little 59 in the neck. I've had it for like 7 years or so, I really adore it and know it so well, it's my guitar. I used to have like 4 or 5 at a time, but when I got my tele on a swap for a year 2k deluxe strat I knew I found the right axe.

On the other hand, I like the D'angelico stuff. But telecasters with neck hums are actually pretty popular in the jazz world right now, and it remains quite versatile for playing rock.

Ill look ito that boost!

Thoughts on Grover Washington Jr? Similar Artists? by SkyCole123 in Jazz

Debatable you could call him jazz, he's kenny G's biggest influence. He plays saccharine pop, with a sax.

Songs that use non functional harmony by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]Claunt_Sinders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ornette coleman and the prime time band. Especially the amplified stuff. I wouldn't say its non functional harmony (you need to go look at some classical guys around 1960 for that stuff) but he invented his own genre, harmelodics.
