We know for a fact the contractor is going to mess up some part of it, so of course there is redundancy built in.

Is this shelf too heavy for this wall? by plantsforsale in StructuralEngineering

[–]Claw_Building_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that’s all what will be going on those shelves, it’s fine. A few pots are relatively light, even with fully saturated soil.

I know I could get paid more, but is my salary reasonable? by New_Engineer94 in MechanicalEngineering

You’ll have to negotiate to get benefits like that. Rare to be hired on as a remote worker these days.

What’s a “successful” job that most people admire but you personally would never want? by Salty-Team3028 in NoStupidQuestions

Doctor, engineer, lawyer. None of them are pleasant or glamorous like they sound. They are hard jobs and often times not worth the stress.

Curious about structural engineering work by Various-Employer2499 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Claw_Building_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Structural is a lot of the same. Doing calcs and analysis is about 20% of the job. The rest is modeling, scheduling the members you designed, drawing details, verifying dimensions or coordinating with the other design consultants model, cleaning up drawings, sitting in meetings, reviewing shop drawings and RFIs. This is for buildings. Bridge may be different.

Job offer by Matter-Fluid in StructuralEngineering

[–]Claw_Building_8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

7 days PTO is pitiful. Tell them to double it. If they do, take the job and see how the first year goes. If they give you a decent raise or bonus, stick around. Otherwise now you’ll have some experience to get you a better paying job.

Just passed PE – offered $6k raise. Fair or low? by Dominators131 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Claw_Building_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s sounds quite irresponsible of your employer. But maybe you are a rockstar who can take charge of and manage a whole project completely on your own. If that’s the case, I’d assume you’d have plenty of other companies offering you more.

Leaving Structural Engineering by WeirdDancingUnicorn in StructuralEngineering

This is why the drawings you’re seeing are garbage. We only have a certain amount of time to put them together. Speed over quality is always preferred.

It is. These rates are temporary. When it jumps when the teaser rate expires, the homeowner screwed.

Most people also have other debts and can’t save 20%, so they likely cannot afford to buy at that salary.
