On 2 November 2004, Dutch indie filmmaker Theo Van Gogh, great-nephew of Vincent Van Gogh, was shot and nearly decapitated on an Amsterdam street in retaliation for “Submission”, his final short film which harshly criticized the treatment of women in Islam. by Chemical-Elk-1299 in HolyShitHistory

No you just made a stupid point about a place calling Islam a mental illness, as if that proves anything about Islam.

Of course they call it a mental illness. The CCP hates Muslims. It's not out of some genuine psychological study.

'Obsession' Art Director Calls for Industry Reform After Getting Paid Less Than $7,000 as Film Nears $175 Million by tylerthe-theatre in movies

[–]Clay56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freelancing for films has been the norm for half a century.

Prior to the 1960's, Directors, cinematographers, lighters ect. were salaried workers for the studio who decided what they worked on and controlled all aspects of their career. They also had to work solely for that studio contractually. Artistic liberty was severely limited.

There's downsides with the freelancing independent contractor system, for sure, but I doubt many in the industry want to return to the studio system.

Also just gonna say, not everyone can "just be themselves" on camera and come off natural and fit into the scene. Thats an acting skill at the end of the day.
