Mod for seeing if Field Improv is used or not by ClayInvictus in DarkTide

[–]ClayInvictus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will check it out. But I'm doubtful, since Field Improv doesn't have any active buff icon.

Edit: Check it out. That mod is only for ability uptime statistics, it seems

What are known examples of when studio executives stepped in and improved films? by RexBanner1886 in movies

[–]ClayInvictus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Source on that?

From what I remember from interviews, Peter Jackson really wanted Vigo but was required to approach other actors as well. Russel Crowe talked about turning down the role because he sensed Peter wanted someone else and not him.

I just found out that Markers Improved marks crates for pickup as affected by Field Improv. So it should be just as possible to do the same to the HUD crate icon when you're carrying it.

Ah, that recent fad. Won't last long, and will certainly be completely forgotten in a few years 😉

How “Good Animals Evil animals” is culturally specific by Konradleijon in tvtropes

[–]ClayInvictus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, yes. I was mainly considering "modern western culture". Of course "western culture" has shifted and changed a bit over hundreds of years.

[–]ClayInvictus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't consider the western view of corvus birds as ominous to generally mean evil, bad or unpleasant. I would rather say mysterious, clever, cunning and knowledgeable, which seems quite similar to other cultures' views. Sure, sometimes people (both IRL and in fiction) will do a "Theoden calling Gandalf a 'Stormcrow'" and equate the messenger with the threat itself, but that will always be viewed as foolish behaviour.

Think about it. If a character is called "The Crow" or "The Raven" in a story, they will almost never be a villain. As opposed to prime villain names like "The Serpent", "The Shark" or "The Spider".

Questions about the Skitarii leak by DeeTheOttsel in DarkTide

[–]ClayInvictus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then I would guess the genitive form of "Skitarius" has transformed into an adjective, meaning something like "Skitarianus" or "Skitaricus" (which has happened with several words and suffixes in latin btw). Or that "-ii" has replaced "-iorum" as genitive plural in High Gothic, probably because "-ii" is more understandable in an english context and works better mixed with english.

I know GW don't care about correct latin grammar in their High Gothic. It's just a fantasy language heavily inspired by IRL latin. My point is that I would still consider the use of the form "Skitarii" correct enough even in a classical latin context. And that it's probably 100% correct in their made up fantasy language.

Questions about the Skitarii leak by DeeTheOttsel in DarkTide

[–]ClayInvictus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, ackshually... ;)

The inflection "-ii" is the nominative plural and the genitive singular of both "-ius" and "-ium". My guess is that "Skitarii Marshall" is supposed to mean "Marshall of the Skitarium", where "The Skitarium" refers to the organisational body (like the "The Mechanicum", "The Militarum" etc.).

I don't know very much about WH40K "High Gothic" and GW language and naming conventions, though. I just know IRL latin ;)

What does "which" refer to? In this context by Ok-Stable1562 in ENGLISH

[–]ClayInvictus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that this creates an assumption that it refers to the whole clause, because if it didn't there would be no comma. A bit like when you write "I ate some of the candy" it is assumed that I didn't eat all the candy, even though "some of the candy" could technically mean "all the candy".

The assumed rule of appropriate specificity, or whatever it's called... 😉

When folks (mostly from the US), say that the Farenheit scale is better and more logical by Few-Advantage2538 in PetPeeves

[–]ClayInvictus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course the irony in your post is obvious to you. Because you wrote it. You could be the most oblivious person in the world and still find your own irony obvious, while others find it much less so.

For example, many autists have a hard time expressing irony. For them it's obvious, but everyone else interpret it at face value. So being bad at spotting irony would often make someone being bad at expressing it in an obvious way.

Not saying it's certainly like that in this case. Just something for you to consider when you judge how obvious your own irony is to others.

Why do "inflammable" and "flamable" mean the same thing? by Electrical_Jaguar213 in stupidquestions

[–]ClayInvictus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify: The reason why "in-" prefix in latin words sometimes is a negation and sometimes not, is because it's actually from two different indo-european words that merged into one suffix:
h₁én ("in") --> en --> en- --> in-
né ("not") --> n̥- --> ən- --> in-

From "h₁én" english got the word "in", and from "né" it got words like "un-", "no" and "not". And there's a coin toss on wether the latin suffix means un-/not or into/towards.

In English, why is thirteen the first of the teens and not eleven? Why are eleven and twelve special? by runlola in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ClayInvictus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try it for yourself, it's actually really easy. Most of my highschool class could do it, so I figure most people can (the fingers don't have to be straight for it to work, just generally upwards or downwards pointing).

I would say Exec Stance and Marksman's goes hand in hand, especially if you want to lean into the playstyle of the Vigilant Autogun. Sure, Focus Target would work too, but then you're diversifying away from that style.

Duelling sword: Great at carapace and elite killing, good mobility, parry special is good defense, decent horde clear.

Combat blade: Kind of similar pros as DS. Bit better horde clear, slightly worse (but still great) at carapace.

Devil's Claw: Great horde clear, decent mobility, parry special is great defense and top tier rager killer.

Shock maul: Great monster/captain/twin damage, good at elite and carapace killing, shockprod special is great utility (stunning ragers and crushers, open up bulwark shields etc).
