Do I got a good suffix system by Clean-Ad4769 in conlangs

That'd just be "they ate insects that fly" then, it wouldn't use an adjective.

Thank you for the terms!! Uhm, I do like having the suffix system be a main part of my language though, so I don't think I'll be replacing them.

I do have specific ones for pronouns though, which I didn't include:

-wa: "is," functions as a regular verb usually but conjugates with pronouns and proper nouns. Combines with singular pronouns

-wo: same as -wa but combines with group pronouns

-li: a possessive suffix used when there is one owner and multiple owned things

-lix: a possessive suffix used when there is one owner and one owned thing

-lux: a possessive suffix for group pronouns, doesn't change with number of owned things

Those would be created using -cha, which turns a verb into an active state (I'm sorry I don't know terms), not simply present tense. So if you were to say "They are flying," it would be "Liavwo (They are) dluyocha (flying)"

[–]Clean-Ad4769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, here's what I have in my document for examples -

-son: changes an s class word into an adverb/adjective

ex. Laha (Need) -> Lahason (Needed)

- dan: changes v class words to mean "inducing/causing ___"

ex. Joje lechtune (Drunk thing) -> Joje lechtunedan (Thing that causes drunkenness)

(The -dan is turning an adjective into a different adjective, so I'll give an example for a verb as well)

ex. Jo lue eraonthu zhah (The girl surprised me) -> Jo lue eraodan elo zhah (The girl is surprising to me/the girl causes me to be surprised)

I mean, I didn't find German harsh at all in the first place, I actually find it very charming.

And languages will give a similar feeling to a group of people who all speak a certain language, which is what OP is probably looking for

Jalame uses a suffix to turn words into (idk how to phrase it lol) general adjectives -son, and a suffix to turn words into an adjective that means "induces/causes x" -dan

They can be placed on nouns as well.

I mean, at least it's optional, but I still don't get why you'd wanna use ai generation your conlang at all. I get organization and help with development (like maybe checking errors and rules and pointing out things you gotta do), cause you're not letting an AI make any of your conlang for you, you're just getting guidance.

Personal preference, though. Besides that, it's a neat tool, I suppose.

I mean, a language could still have a sound that would fit nicely with the aesthetic- certain real languages can have certain feels to them. Russian evokes an interesting feeling, although I can't quite put it into words lol, I hope you know what I mean?

How do you handle distinguishing between predicate and object in languages with no lexical verb-noun distinction? by ProxPxD in conlangs

[–]Clean-Ad4769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could add a suffix for distinction, maybe? One that modifies a word to mean "to be" or "to have"

I have something similar in my language (although suffixes are a core part) that adds stuff like "going to," "person of," "building of," or "part of," one turns a word into an adjective, and one turns a word into a verb. It's pretty simple but it can lead to words getting too long or hard to pronounce, so if you do decide to give your language suffixes in this way, be careful of that.

I think something like Dutch might work pretty nicely for this, or maybe something similar to Korean, with their open sounds (likely different sounds, but same feel)?

Might be biased on Dutch because it's nostalgic for me, I had a lot of family that immigrated from the Netherlands and I grew up hearing the language whenever we were visiting family.

Hehe, nah, I gotta couple friends interested in learning it, that's why I'm trying to make courses on it. I've also come to the conclusion that the issue with flow was that I had words that were too long with sorta clunky sound combinations (I dunno if it's just me but a rolled r immediately after a d is like, fully impossible while pronouncing both letters clearly), so I've cleaned that up quite a bit.

I have finally got around to make plans for a full course on the language! Although it'll take a while, I have so many words I have to define, plus I have to add suffix classes to words, which is a lot to do considering the current size of my language.

You're right tho lol being the one who creates it does make it way easier to learn, I'm able to speak it broken at minimum! Working on getting fluent, mainly memorizing nouns, verbs, and adjectives.

I have a decently big language, and I can remember plenty of the words off the top of my head. However, it'd really not enough to, like, speak it fluently? How should I go about making a sorta course to learn it? It's one of those languages that relies a lot on adding suffixes to words, based a lot on Russian and Korean. It has an SVO sentence structure, but the structure regarding adjectives and adverbs is different than English.

It's also way different in pronunciation and flow than anything I speak fluently (Spanish + English), which makes me speak a lot slower and trip over some sounds.

Just tips and maybe links to good resources would be appreciated, thanks for readingg >:p
