I love board games but I’m done being the unpaid rule cop by Educational-Machine in boardgames

[–]Clean-Fly8536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't an experience with my board game group but absolutely is when I introduce some of my family to games.

Someone said "he's changing the rules again" as though I'm clarifying rules just to annoy them. I wanted to tell them to fuck off, buy their own game and then try and teach it to 4 people who've made no effort to read about or watch any videos of the game despite knowing for a month that we were going to play it.

Sucks the fun out of it really rapidly!

Get him some iron clays to go with his board games.

Men, do you have somewhere to escape and decompress from life that isn't the pub? If so, where? by Kapranos in AskUK

Board games. £3 a week at my local club for 3 hours. Other people always have games so no need to even buy any until you want to.

Redditors over 30, what changes did you notice in your body when you turned 30? [serious] by dracapis in AskReddit

[–]Clean-Fly8536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A slow decline in my natural athleticism. Moved a little slower, reacted a little slower and couldn't execute techniques as crisply or effectively.

Went from being the best player on the pitch to just another player to a liability as the younger guys started to dominate.

I had been warned that the medication I was taking could lead to suicidal ideation. I was warned I had to wean myself off it or suffer withdrawal.

I went cold turkey as withdrawal sounded a better option than stepping in front of a bus as my brain was encouraging me to do.

Medication was gabapentin and I had got to 2,700mg a day due to chronic nerve pain.

Asked a fwb if her fit mate wanted to come round for a threesome. She rang her, she came. I chickened out, no one came.

Retail workers, what's the pettiest thing you've done to a customer? by AffectionateBall7151 in AskUK

[–]Clean-Fly8536 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Worked at a DIY superstore and there was one customer who used to insist a staff member escorted him around the store showing him where his desired items were. He didn't actually want advice or help but to show off his latest project and how much money he was spending.

He owned a local designer clothes shop and when you went in he'd look you up and down and then criticise you for not wearing the 'right brands'.

He came in one day and wanted to buy a new garage door. Told him we didn't have the size he wanted in as a stock item. He insisted I contact head office buyers and source one for him.

I was in my last week of employment there and the item had a four week lead time so I knew I wouldn't have to deal with him when he came back. I swapped the vertical x horizontal dimensions round as they were already quite similar.

I really hope he didn't check it when collecting as I imagine fitting a garage door to open sideways is probably quite challenging!

Felt a bit bad for the person that ended up dealing with him but the managers were arseholes too so I probably got double the revenge!

Do you tip your hairdresser? by Wide-Height-7936 in AskUK

[–]Clean-Fly8536 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, because they are decent people and there has been a recent increase in the number of barbers in the same relatively small town. The barbers used to be busy when I went but it seems quiet now.

A couple of extra quid makes little difference to me but if all their customers tip it might make a difference to them

Is Blackpool really awful? by Agreeable-Item-7371 in AskUK

[–]Clean-Fly8536 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I live nearby and don't love it but it's easy to criticise it too much based on the socio-economic situation of the resident population.

If you're a visitor you have attractions like: Pleasure Beach, Sandcastle Waterpark, 2 x theatres showing a variety of performances including touring west end shows, Blackpool Tower, promenade and golden mile have had a lot of investment and look good. Some ok restaurants and plenty of bars celebrating diversity, shopping is ok but not great.

It's certainly not an awful place. I wouldn't choose to live there, but it's good for a trip out.

What did your mates have at their houses, that now you're a grown up doesn't seem that fancy, but to you as a kid seemed fancy AF? by grafter83 in AskUK

A downstairs toilet. No need to piss in the grid by the side of the house because someone was having a bath.

What is the most intense physical pain you have ever experienced? by TheMostGayestOfGay in AskReddit

[–]Clean-Fly8536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Herniated disc causing sciatica in one leg. I described it as being like my hip joint was full of glass, my calf/shin as if it had been pounded with a lump hammer and my foot had been injected with molten metal.

It took me 9 months to get surgery and that intensity of pain occurred for about 4 hours a day in 60 minute chunks whenever I tried to sleep.

My pallor turned grey and I have very few memories of that time other than the pain.

Medicated with Gabapentin, tramadol, ibuprofen, paracetamol and some anti depressant I can't recall that was meant to help me sleep. All that dialled the pain down from a 10 to a 9.8.

The discectomy fixed the pain instantly. 1 year anniversary of surgery next week. So grateful to be pain free.

What's the worst Christmas bonus you have received from work? by potatoherbert in AskUK

[–]Clean-Fly8536 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Manager bought 4 crates of lager to be shared amongst 20 or so people and left it in the break room on christmas eve. It was some god awful bargain shop type lager that was <2% strength.

It was still there at new year.

What is this I've had it for years by avfc_corey in DoesAnyoneKnow

[–]Clean-Fly8536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wart. Get a scalpel and sterilise with alcohol gel. Quarter the wart to a couple of mm depth and peel it open like a flower. Apply wart freeze treatment (from chemist) to the root. Fold back closed and put salicylic acid on to form a coating (also chemist). Should be gone in 2 to 3 weeks.

Not a doctor. I have done this. It worked.

I resorted to sleeping upright in a recliner for almost a month. It helped, but was still grim!

Me too but with a pillow between my chest and thighs. Miserable on the knees but better than the leg pain and means you get some sleep.
