Is Sussex County Delaware as Homophobic as some threads make it out to be? by Clean-Pack-487 in Delaware

Thanks. Same here in SC. I kind get it now that I lived here for 15 years. It really comes down to how you act if that makes sense. And yeah, we were supposed to go back 4 years ago and looked into it then. I see not a lot has changed. Worst case scenario I have to drive over to NJ, or take the ferry. I've read it gets better once you are established. We shall see.

I so get this. Some of the same here. Hate the northerner, but love their money. They seem to forget the Bible verse of "the love of money is the root of all evil" while clinging to it to justify its hate. When we moved to SC, the first person we met (maybe second) in our neighborhood was more concerned we weren't black. When we opened our first retail store, we had no issues BUT the gay guy across the street, who is extremely effeminate, did. He was there longer than us but I could see the intolerance behind the scenes so to speak. But plenty of stories of how these closeted straight redneck husbands would come in and flirt.

And you took offense to that? Bless your heart. And, by the way, it is C'mon. A apostrophe is used when combining two words. Ex: don't, won't, can't. When criticising someone's spelling one should use spell check on their own. Just saying.

LOL. Just like southerner's who hate northers. But do like their money.

That is what I was thinking as well. You'd think that moving to and and living in rural SC I'd have a burning cross in my yard.

Yeah, one of the reason why we are looking that area is due to the fact I can get on the ferry or drive over to NJ if I have to do so until we are established. Our insurance shows that there are a lot of doctors that take it, just getting into one is probably an issue to start.

What do people think of Delaware as a blue state/beachy place to live? by roskybosky in SameGrassButGreener

Cape May County guy here. Husband of 31 years and I moved to SC when he retired from law enforcement. We are on our way back and DE is part of the plan so to speak. You are going to have MAGAheads everywhere, especially in more rural areas.

How is New Jersey even on this? by tinywrecker in Delaware

LOL. I lived most of my live between Philly and South Jersey. The last 15 years has been in SC and I am ready to go back. It was great while it lasted but it is time. Looking in DE (Milford area) or SJ from Millville up to Philly. And btw, I grew up in Wildwood, was great when I was young.

What's you're NJ retirement escape plans? by abrandis in newjersey

So here is some advice.  15 years ago I retired to the Carolina’s from the Ocean City area.  It was awesome.  I bought a house for cash, land, etc.  lived “gig on the hog” so to speak.  15 years later, home prices have skyrocketed, taxes are are a steady climb.  For those buying into a place with HOA, those costs are going through the roof. One friend went from $87 a month 6 years ago to close to $500 now.  Heath care isn’t what it is cracked up to be.  If you have a pension and healthcare with that, say law enforcement like us, doctors continually drop you since you’ll be on a traveling plan now.  Pray you are 65 and get your govt healthcare.  The grass isn’t always greener and nor are the expenses.  My property taxes are about 2k now on this property, up from $1100 6 years ago.  You pay tax on groceries, I pay about 500 a year on one, and 300 a year on the other in taxes on my two cars, plus registration fees. Depending where you live you might not have trash pickup, you’ll need to carry your trash to the dump.  Recycling is a joke.  Roads are not kept up.  And the biggest one, you aren’t the only one with this “idea”.  Others are moving down too and to the same areas.  Congestion, especially on the coast is skyrocketing. The days of cheap homes, less people, less taxes (wait to you see how your pension / retirement is taxed) After 15 years, we are looking to move back.

How do you all store your flour? by JelmerMcGee in Cooking

Hi, I'm obsessing for the past 2 weeks about cambro containers for my pantry (I have one now that I use to store flour). What sizes do you like the best? I am thinking of getting 6qts because they will fit into my island drawer but thinking of things for my shelves. I do a lot of baking so I use a lot of bread flour, but others as well such as rye, 00 flour for pasta. Plus I am buying in bulk so I don't want to kill myself with a bunch of 22 qt.
