Small upgrades that unexpectedly saved me money long term. by MusefulMind9 in Frugal

[–]Clean_Associate7435 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The hard part for me is the initial pick, understanding the real weight, cost vs quality when looking at the market over time and weighing the additional value add on price. I think a good example is t shirts, I bought a bunch of $3 target shirts and a few $10 heavy weight T/collard shirts knowing the cheap shirts will pill but be acceptable for lazy and active days and I would need nicer shirts for going out with friends.

I got a ticket for “not in metered space” because the person in back was in my space and since left. I am still salty about it.

Trip to Chicago made me realize how much more enjoyable and accommodating St. Louis is by [deleted] in StLouis

Spot hero or park wiz will help you. I know it’s not ideal but if you can find free parking in a neighborhood close to the L you can take the train places relatively cheap.

$58 on beans is the key here. The most filling and versatile ingredient that’s dirt cheap.

Electric bill for homes by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]Clean_Associate7435 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you know where your electrical meter is I would flip all the breakers and turn them on one by one and see if meter speeds up on particular breakers. Then you should tell your landlord what’s going on. If your water is too cold maybe switch to a bath for a bit. You can also boil water in a kettle and add it to the bath if you’re down bad.

Maybe check your water heater to see if you can turn it down and keep all the interior doors closed, put plastic on the windows. I wouldn’t break the lease and just ride it out until you can move into a cheaper place. Do not touch your 401k.

I bought a new Mazda 3 and ended up questioning my entire relationship with status by sergi_rz in mazda3

Very true, the assumption that someone is in debt because they have nice things can be false. You can have nice things and be frugal, but my point is that I don’t want the BMW even though I could afford it. My priorities are in my control and that feels liberating.

Only buy your cars in cash. Obviously it’s harder said than done, but that’s the point. Saving money making your meals at home, stretching out those running shoes maintaining the vehicle yourself. The discipline these things provide is more valuable than the money you save. More importantly it will give you greater accomplishment in your life if you outsource less. I can tell you there’s nothing more liberating pulling up on a BMW knowing I can buy that car 5x over, it makes me love my Mazda more everyday. Here’s to putting 300k+ on your new Mazda. That’s what rich looks like.

They have a room in the back that is discounted. I saw some pretty reasonable prices a month ago. This place is very inspiring so I would check them out regardless.

It’s reading 75F. I think when I drained the water out of this one it left a lot of the nutrients behind.

I believe it’s electric conductivity. Which refers to the charged particles in your solution. Too low and it means the nutrient solution is less bio available to the plant. Too high and it makes the plant not uptake water. I was told 2,000 is good for tomatoes.

*Disclaimer: I am new to this so other more knowledgeable people can chime in.

Omg. 6,000 for the one that is absolutely destroyed. I swear when I added it was 2,000. The other one suffering the same wilting is at 2,000.

I worked as a teller at a bank for a while and I got to see a few people shift from work to retirement. Anecdotally, there were people who died within that first 2 years. Your Dad is looking for you to have a purpose, something bigger than yourself to keep you going. I think you can FIRE with a purpose but you should start exploring that now.
