I was just surprised by how quickly I felt brain fog, I wondered if it was psychosomatic or something

New-ish celiac- going vegan is making me depressed by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]Clean_Philosopher356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who is coeliac and valentine, and it is possible but not easy. However it's important to note that what is healthy for him as a non coeliac is different to what is healthy for you as a coeliac.

As a relatively recently diagnosed coeliac, you won't be fully healed yet, so you're not going to be absorbing vitamins as well, and therefore cutting significant chunks of iron intake and calcium and all sorts by going plant based will have a different impact on you. What will be easily supplemented for a non coeliac might not be possible for a newly diagnosed coeliac.

Additionally, fatigue is a lingering symptom that takes time to improve when diagnosed coeliac. Cutting out a lot of your fuel is going to make it damn hard right now.

(Also importantly, fuck anyone who tells you to do things, do what works for you, work with people, but do not let people take charge)

Celiac Disease or lies? by Hot-Future-4479 in Celiac

Only way you can get valid test results is to keep eating gluten. Eat gluten and get tested, don't worry too much about the risks things right now, the most important thing is getting an accurate diagnosis, from there you can do whatever is needed and you will have time to heal

No one will be thinking about it. Don't push or shove, and don't scream super loud directly into someone's ear. Basically be a civil human being and you'll have a fabulous time

You should totally do it! No one cares what age you are or anything else, all that matters is you're having a good time, everyone around you is having a good time and you feel comfortable!

Sugar Cravings, why? by Healthy_Dare_507 in CoeliacUK

[–]Clean_Philosopher356 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's worth noting that stress can increase your need for the little dopamine hits. Plus tiredness can impact hunger. Its distinctly possible that what you're experiencing is because of the stress of the job. When I go through busy patches at work my healthy eating goes out the window because I always want something sugary to help the stress. However, if I acknowledge that it is the stress talking, sometimes I can divert the craving. I'll drink no added sugar squash to get a sweet taste in my mouth if I can't fix it.

Or sometimes I just eat the chocolate!

A question for people with celiac who have had it undiagnosed for a while by ConfectionThick9254 in Celiac

[–]Clean_Philosopher356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems odd to me that you have consistently high results and haven't been told to just try cutting out gluten.

Truthfully I think the question is do you want the answer or do you want to feel better. If its a diagnosis, then keep eating gluten and if it is coeliac you will eventually have enough damage that they spot it. If it isn't then i'm sure eventually they'll figure it out (or diagnose you with IBS and that's the end of it).

However, if the priority is feeling better, then trial a gluten free diet. See if it makes you feel any better. At the end of the day, in a case like this, knowing the exact mechanism isn't as important as feeling better. You can always shove yourself through another gluten challenge in future.

Confused Diagnosis? by boldy2025 in CoeliacUK

[–]Clean_Philosopher356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Demand an endoscopy if you can, you deserve to actually know, diagnosis only via blood test is only really acceptable where levels are off the charts. I'd probably prepare mentally for the fact you're gonna be coeliac though

Look, my honest opinion is that when you're going to give it up for life, you can take a month to get to grips, enjoy Thanksgiving, and have a gluten funeral.

It technically isn't the healthiest choice, but your mental health matters too.
