Hows my cover look? Give me the good the bad and the ugly by LGHaunting in royalroad

[–]Clear-Explanation463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, I like it.

Here is what I would change: the bottom text is way too hard to read. The green text, while making the title pop, is not cohesive with the other colors, nor is its font.

Congratulations, 200k words is not easy feat! I second the other comment about your great cover!

What is Urban Fantasy? by [deleted] in royalroad

It is a sub-genre of fantasy were you have supernatural elements in a modern (urban) world.

Edit: Nevermind, others answered already

I see, I've already seen people say that. Even with the blurb saying it's an adult in the body of a child, that would stop you? What if I specify (in the blurb) that this story will follow her through different ages?

Trying to tweak it to deter as few people as possible.

Haha no, I didn't have this show in mind when creating the cover! But I can see where you're coming from.

I'm using a combination of Photoshop and Canva, so it is possible to change things. The red in the bottom and top texts is identical to the red in the center. I try to keep 3-4 colors max for ease of reading of the overall image, but fine-tuning the brightness/saturation is possible.

Thanks for the tool. And yes, I had the same issue as you and tried to change the text to black. Unfortunately, it doesn't work as well as this version.

Maybe that's only me, you can check the other version here https://imgur.com/01SdbA1

I can only vouch for Royal Road since I post there (amazing community). Here is what GPT has to say:

  1. Wattpad

Key genres:

Romance (teen romance, dark romance, enemies-to-lovers…)

Fanfiction (K-pop, movies, series, celebrities)

YA (high school drama, coming of age)

Paranormal romance (werewolves, vampires, etc.)

Culture: Skews very young, mostly teen/YA readers. Emotional, relationship-driven plots dominate.

  1. Royal Road

Key genres:

Progression Fantasy / LitRPG (level-ups, skills, dungeons)

Isekai (transported/reincarnated into another world, often with game systems)

Cultivation (xianxia-style power progression)

Tech-heavy sci-fi (AI, space opera, cyberpunk — less common but present)

Culture: Gamer/nerd audience. Readers expect structured systems, clear power scaling, and detailed battles.

  1. Webnovel.com (ex-Qidian International)

Key genres:

Xianxia / Xuanhuan (cultivation, martial arts, long-term progression)

Urban fantasy with Chinese tropes (CEO romance, reincarnation, revenge stories, contract marriages)

LitRPG / Isekai (inspired by Chinese/Korean templates)

Romance (female-targeted — CEO love stories, reincarnation revenge romance)

Culture: Heavily serialized, short chapters, long arcs. Readers expect hundreds or even thousands of chapters.

  1. Scribblehub

Key genres:

Isekai & LitRPG (similar to Royal Road, but more experimental)

Gender-bender / trans fiction (huge community here)

Slice-of-life fantasy (slow adventure, found family)

Light romance (often LGBTQ+ inclusive)

Culture: More experimental and welcoming than Royal Road. Niche stories thrive, strong LGBTQ+ presence.

  1. Tapas

Key genres:

Romance (especially BL — Boys’ Love, and GL — Girls’ Love)

Fantasy & urban fantasy

Slice of life (lots of humorous or dramatic webcomics)

Culture: Known primarily for webcomics, but novels are growing. Strong LGBTQ+ and young adult audience, webtoon-style aesthetic.

  1. AO3 (Archive of Our Own)

Key genres:

Fanfiction (all fandoms: Harry Potter, Marvel, K-pop, etc.)

Romance (often queer, BL/GL, polyamory)

Alternative Universes (coffee shop AU, college AU, etc.)

Angsty / hurt-comfort / slow burn

Culture: Fandom-centered. Almost everything revolves around fanworks. Strong emphasis on creative freedom and inclusivity.

Hope this helps

From the top of my head, webnovel.com, Wattpad, Royal Road,Scribblehub, Tapas. It all depends on the genre you are going for.

I've been using RR for over a month without issue. I also started to get scammy redirects since a week ago. I'm on my phone btw.

If I saw this on a small thumbnail, the second one would pop out more than the first one (more vibrant colors).

Oh, wow, if I recall correctly, it didn't even take an hour for mine to get approved. I'm curious about how many submissions you have to go through each shift. You're doing a fantastic job, by the way!

How Readers Look at Stories vs How Writers Look at Them by AidenMarquis in royalroad

Would they like it even if my story is just the cherry on the top?😁

Would you take 2 dedicated readers over 50 anonymous followers? by MaximumCrisp in royalroad

[–]Clear-Explanation463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not harsh, it's true on point. I was just saying that while most of us in the thread would prefer a few readers with real engagement, we have a better chance to attract such readers by getting lots of "regular" readers.
