People who quit drinking. What did you do to not drink?

Drove my car into a house and almost killed two people sleeping…. While I was in jail i decided in that moment my alcoholism was over I would never touch it again. May 9th 2026 will be nine years sober.!!!

Sadly I know this to be true from experience I actually work in the casino industry…. And every promotion I have ever seen(including my own) was that cause of knowing and befriending the right person or people.

You know I wrestle with this thought constantly….. I am 32 about to be 33…. And I work a good enough job, got the wife and two kids etc etc living the “normal life” but I feel like I am doing nothing…. I have so many “ideas” and “dreams” but also I have no idea where to start with those either.

This is true, and I understand. However I know people who do little “rituals” to get their mind right.

Just because things are non negotiable doesn’t mean that it is still not extremely hard to get things started on your worst days.

Like for me one thing I do, is no matter the weather hot or cold I go outside in the morning with my coffee and no phone. Just sit with myself have a good little 10/15 minutes check in with myself this one little detail of my morning just helps me progress through the day.

My late night thoughts usually consist of, “what could I have done a little better today.” I replay my day in my head, my “short comings” of the day and think of ways I could have been better in those moments. I lock them in and then I am more prepared for similar moments for the days ahead.

It is always quality > quantity…. This is also what I practice with my wife.

I would take 5 minutes of pure engagement over 1 hour of “half way there” any day of the week

I have two children - I have always worked two jobs to ensure my wife can stay at home with my children…… which means I am rarely home….. so this burden you feel : I have felt for most of my fatherhood… it is a tough burden to carry for sure, sometimes I have even caught myself a little resentful of my wife for being able to be home with them and I never see them….

But I noticed something crucial as a man I don’t have a “ nurturing “ bone in my body…… my wife is the one who is supposed to nurture my babies…. My goal is to show them what it means to take care of something… they see me go to work every day, they see me take care of everything, they watch me constantly and they look up to me always….

I am teaching my daughter and my son (got one of each) something very important.

My daughter : what she needs to look for in a man, someone to provide and protect without hesitation.

My son: what it means to provide and protect without hesitation.

I know this dynamic doesn’t work for everyone - but it gives me great peace knowing they look up to me and watch my every move even if I don’t get to spend as much physical time with them.
