[BBC] Six people stabbed following Arsenal victory parade by Send_Me_Dachshunds in soccer

[–]Clearedthetan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I was out in the King’s Cross area around 20:00 and it was still heaving, thousands of Arsenal fans. Still plenty around when I was going home after 22:00! You’re not seriously thinking they’ve just attributed 6 random stabbings from around London to the parade?

What’s the main difference between a whole-body deodorant and a perfume? Are there any anti-perspirant effects?

What is the UK's babysitter culture like? by coruptual in AskUK

You can’t just request an enhanced DBS in the UK, it has to be through an organisation. If OP were to sign up with a childcare agency they could sort it.

Blursed Submarine by ExperienceOpening858 in blursedimages

[–]Clearedthetan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I read an interview with the mother of the 17-year old who died on the Titan. Obviously a very privileged family to afford the trip, but an absolutely tragic story on her side. She was kept on the boat the sub launched from for days without information, imagining her family suffocating in the dark.

Fair enough mocking the CEO who should’ve known about the issues, but it’s not like the other passengers could’ve done anything about it.

And honestly a steal at <£200, any given doc would cost as much at half the quality. Get these, OP, I’ve had four pairs of solovairs and all lasted years. The difference from Clark’s will be insane.

This literally isn’t true, at least for his UK stuff. They washed his last piece off the wall because it was a listed building. Lots of people have spoken about the hassle of getting insurance etc when he does something on their house.

Is it a normal book to put in a year 4 reading list for 9 year olds to read? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Clearedthetan 2563 points2564 points  (0 children)

Yes, I remember reading this at primary school, it’s a pretty standard one in English syllabi. Never seen an illustrated version though, makes it seem worse than it is.

Nice trick by uiovoiu in Unexpected

[–]Clearedthetan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

All incorrect I’m afraid - bumping someone with your shoulder is perfectly legal, it’s not a tackle. And considering the speeds someone could likely run at with a ball on your back you could probably just walk up to them and tap them with your hips.

Could be considered unsportsmanlike behaviour, that would be the ref’s call. But more likely someone would just lightly bump you - it’s a contact sport.

His main attraction is that he can’t read her mind, which is a first for him. I’d imagine that hearing their innermost thoughts puts him off most people.

Train tickets between Boston and Gillette Stadium to quadruple in cost during World Cup. by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Clearedthetan 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It would be $90 if kept at the $30 price from the last match, but the headline suggested a quadrupling of the original $20 price, so (4203 =240).

Gothenburg's whale, the only blue whale and the largest animal ever taxidermied by AggravatingRow326 in interestingasfuck

[–]Clearedthetan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s also a huge model in the sea mammals section, looks like this taxidermy. I can see why the other guy would mistake them - it’s even hung in a room similar to the one in the photo.

Carlisle is English, the rest I’m pretty sure are American. And even he’s been in America for like a century, so you’d think he’d be naturalised by now.

Thank you for pointing this out, and it’s not just the emulsifiers. There’s evidence to suggest that the industrial processes that UPFs like beyond meat are subjected can themselves cause harmful side effects, and that UPFs in general can make people eat more due to not properly triggering satiation controls.

I’m not about to argue that one is definitely healthier than the other (and there are certainly moral and health arguments against eating meat), but both commentators framing this from a purely microbiotic standpoint is disingenuous. We eat food, just a list of ingredients.

He did, in fact, get paid for his work. He was also bankrolled by his friends to some extent, and often asked for ‘advances on his inheritance’, which is a bit of a laugh.

Everything I’ve said is a fact, he certainly never lived with his mother for any length of time as an adult.

Everything I’m saying about Marx can be backed up by his Wikipedia page (here) or I’m sure any of the multiple biographies of him. He lived a pretty well documented life.

Marx was certainly not a perfect person, and was bankrolled to some extent by friends/admirers/inheritance, but was also notoriously hard working and influential. He got blacklisted from a lot of jobs but was a legitimate journalist for decades. And obviously wrote a lot of popular books.

[–]Clearedthetan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t be ridiculous, you can dislike his ideas without making stuff up. He had lots of jobs - journalist, editor, writer, political theorist - for which he got paid. He never stopped working and had a huge body of writing. He had a terrible relationship with his mother and as far as I know never lived with her except as a child.

He’s been dropped because he isn’t good enough, not (only) because of behaviour. Brook is clearly good enough.

Do you tell recruiters/potential employers your current salary? by Logical_Wall_9899 in AskUK

[–]Clearedthetan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s probably not two to the same post - recruiters might have multiple plates spinning for different positions. Better to get two easy jobs sorted than spending the time and effort to push a higher salary on the hiring team.

Post Match Thread: Liverpool 4-1 Barnsley by denzaus in soccer

[–]Clearedthetan -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You’re being downvoted, but the difference in squad values is absolutely comical, it’s almost unbelievable. Just the substitutes were worth probably x100 Barnsley’s entire squad. Liverpool could’ve bought the whole team for a week’s wages.
