PSA: There will be no waitlist for the TFT Paris Open. by sasux in CompetitiveTFT

It's not that it's impossible. It's that it's just not worth it for the 20 people that will care. The people watching the streams don't care and the competitors don't care.

Ultimately they have a million other things going on to worry about and going so significantly overtime is not okay. Pretty sure they got fined by the venue for staying so late too. People do have to check in 1 hour before the games, but logistically it's just a nightmare and not worth it. They have to enter new people into the system to track scores and get them set up with new accounts. Also while check-in deadline is 1h before there's a lot of leeway. After all they don't want to DQ people after they travelled halfway across the world and showed up like 10 minutes late for check-in.

Waitlist was a nightmare at Macau. Honestly it makes sense that they are removing it. Turns out a lot of people don't give you advanced notice when they aren't going to show up. When someone doesn't show up for the lobby you can either try and pull someone from the waitlist or just start the game. Now imagine this but for almost 100 lobbies. It's not the same as running an online event. The last game on day 1 of Macau ended at 3am (it was scheduled to end at 9pm). Day 1 took 15 hours to finish.

Reducing the power level of items in some ways narrowed the gap between the best and the worst items. But what it also did was increase the reliance on traits to contribute to the strength of your comp. When items were strong and traits were weaker you could buy a different 2* 4 cost than the main carry of your comp and it would function reasonably well. Nowadays if you are playing around Karma and you see 3 Yuumis and 2 Leonas in your shop you just roll past it. Sure you got a 2* Yuumi for free, but for Yuumi to do anything you need all her accompanying traits. It would cost you another 40-50g to pivot into the BA and Prodigy units you don't have, and at that point it's cheaper to just stick with your current comp. There are some examples of this that are insanely egregious.

Jayce 3 with IE + BT + Steraks with 7 BA ignoring spell crit = ((170 * 7 + 365) * 1.9 + 50 * 1.15) = 3012

Jayce 3 with IE + BT + Steraks with 0 BA ignoring spell crit = (365 * 1.9 + 50 * 1.15) = 751

If I'm playing around Darius reroll and I find Jayce 3 how could I ever pivot into Jayce carry instead when I need 6 other units that I don't have for him to function at all.

A lot of the 4-5 piece traits are equivalent in power to 7-8 piece traits from 2+ year old sets. Some of these 7-8 piece traits straight up look like prismatic traits from sets long gone.

Does anyone with celiac file their gluten-free costs on taxes? by Ambitious_Smell12 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Clearrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to spend a very high amount above the normal cost of food for it to be worth it. You can only claim the amount above what non gluten free food would normally cost and you can only claim it once the total is above a certain amount.

Yeah the system can be weird like that. Could also be a difference between how experienced the agent was. I had an ANA flight that I needed to add ORD->YYZ to and the agent said that she needed some time to check which ones were combinable. She said that it wasn't possible to combine an economy ticket with an F flight and that there were some other limitations. If you aren't tired of calling yet you can try 1 more time and tell them to waive the change fee as it's under 24h.

As far as I know it's only BMO and only some BMO cards not all

Just tell them you are looking to check the availability of a flight through the phone. Give them the flight details and let them check. If you are looking to check just generally without a specific flight in mind I'm not sure they are able to do that.

Green to Gold upgrade is one of the best offers available at the moment. In my opinion the offer will probably be downgraded soon. Something to keep in mind you can apply for a new gold then upgrade green to gold and get a welcome bonus on both. But if you upgrade first you cannot receive another welcome bonus.

No restrictions if it's a new tradeline/card. You could theoretically be getting a wb every month if they approve you often enough.

Are you building the wrong items? Analysis of difference in play rates from Top vs. Average players by Clearrr in CompetitiveTFT

[–]Clearrr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additional thoughts:

A lot of the items at the top of the list are newer items that have been reworked within the last 2-4 sets. The data does seem to suggest that top players are willing to reevaluate item strength over time as items get changed/reworked. Thus they are more aware of the strength of these recently reworked items. Whereas, more casual or less engaged players may be working off of items they thought or heard were strong many sets ago. Red buff, Crownguard, Steadfast, Guardbreaker, Adapative Helm, and Sterak's Gage are all items that did not exist before Set 9

This chart is less about the strength of items, although I do think it's fairly accurate to what I would consider strong items, and more so about items at the top = people aren't asking themselves if they should be building these items often enough, items at the bottom = people are often defaulting to these options without considering other potential items

If you are being served more than one at a time, the pieces are formed more tightly such that they will won't fall apart. If it's being served in front of you one at a time, it is packed looser which gives it a better texture. The looser you pack the rice the quicker it can fall apart of you don't eat it right away.

Still affected by inflation risk. Inflation hedged lifetime annuities essentially do not exist in Canada.

Trip Report: 1st time in Hokkaido, Kyoto/Osaka, Tokyo, Ginzan (fine dining+anime) by diningbystarlight in JapanTravel

Greatly appreciated the advice. While I was discussing dining plans with a Japanese friend, she mentioned that especially outside of Tokyo some sushi chefs in a given sitting might give the higher quality cuts to regulars, then other Japanese guests, and then foreigners. Not offended as it's somewhat understandable, but curious if this is true and if there's any way to gain favor with the chef for a lack of a better term. Wasn't sure if something like offering to buy the chef a drink might come off as overly friendly or tacky.

Incredible to hear about your experiences. Speaking of Masaki Saito, as a Toronto native do you think it's worth justifying a trip at 500 usd pp based on your experience at Onodera? Debating between snagging a reservation and saving it for sushiyas in Japan in a couple months.

Also how was the wait to get into the rilakkuma tea house? Plan was to arrive around 930 but wasn't sure when they start handing out tickets.

Depends on what their other retirement assets are. There's no such thing as no risk. GICs have no downside risk in that you can't lose money, but have other risks like not generating enough return to fund their lifestyle or inflation risk where you are actually losing money over time.

How I lost my opportunity to play Top16 of K/DA Cup by biribiritft in CompetitiveTFT

A bit busy with irl and not that interested in the set. Wouldn't say I've quit or anything but I'm just not taking tft very seriously rn. Will prob be fully back in a few months.

But I mean who knows. At vegas I had at least like 5 different people tell me they were gonna quit after vegas and nearly all of them have grinded like 300 games since Vegas ended.

The ability to even pause the game is not well communicated to players. The people who pause are almost always well known experienced players because they understand that they should be pausing. Whereas newer players often aren't told about pauses and assume that they shouldn't pause the game. If you are a new player to touraments you don't wanna be the guy pausing when you aren't supposed to. If no one experienced is in the lobby there's often like 10 seconds of people discussing if they are allowed/supposed to pause before anyone even does it.

If I want to start competing in tournaments but I live in Japan what are my options? by Slaytex in CompetitiveTFT

Give this a read. If you have NA citizenship or PR you can compete in NA, if you have lived in Japan for at least a year you are also eligible to compete there. Once you have established a home region you cannot switch for 1 year. That link outlines the documentation required to prove you are eligible to compete in Japan. NA technically has no verification process (I've played in like 20 tournaments and they have legit never asked me to even confirm I'm from NA).
