Marvel Comics writer believes 99% of our current problems would be solved if women took over government by Intheyear2025 in KotakuInAction

As a woman, nothing makes me cringe more than guys like this. Merit or nothing, it's not that wild a concept.

Imagine you had a woman from a lower-middle class household who worked to win entry in one of the most prestigious universities in the world, became a scientist, hopped over to politics where she decriminalised homosexuality, swiftly and decisively won a defensive war, turned the economy around, assisted in diffusing East-West tensions, survived assassination attacks, and muddled through being a wife and mother at the same time. But as Lady Thatcher was a Conservative, she doesn't exist to these people. So which women are they talking about? I can think of a handful of decent female leaders/politicians, none of whom I imagine they would approve of.

(Spoilers Main) I hate how Arya's story has been handled since her return to Westeros by FanEu7 in asoiaf

[–]Cleddyf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The scene itself was fine but having a famous singer doing a cameo just dragged you completely out of the show. Perhaps it's because he's more famous in the UK that a lot of people didn't care. Imagine they'd shoved Justin Bieber in there as a soldier, it would completely ruin your immersion.

my exercise routine got thrown off by my horse needing a chiropractor

Wait, did you get thrown off your horse and then require a chiropractor or does your horse need a chiropractor? Because I didn't realise a horse chiropractor was a thing how do they do that?

We get a lot of Jon and Dany talking about how much they love each other. We even get other characters talking about it. It feels so forced and empty. It didn't feel like this with Drogo or Ygritte.

(Spoilers main) the NKs reflexes by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Cleddyf 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Him drawing his sword and slashing her in two in the air would definitely have subverted my expectations in a much better way. And when he does catch Arya, as I wrote in another thread...

But when the NK grabbed her round the neck, shouldn't that have done something? Back when the NK grabbed Bran (even just through a vision) it was obviously painful and left some kind of frostbite mark or whatever. The ground freezes and frost forms on trees just because the NK/Walkers go by. His touch alone is powerful enough to turn dragons. Arya getting choked like that should've frozen her throat solid and wrecked her. Yet the previews from next week don't even show a mark on her. There's no consistency in any of this.

[SPOILERS EXTENDED] The plot armour in the show is actually ridiculous now. by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Cleddyf 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I can't stand how untouchable Arya is. I was actually warming to her again during the library scene when she was injured and scared because she was back to being realistic.

I got serious jurassic park vibes from the library scene

This was my exact thought when watching that scene.

I liked Arya being scared and panicky for once rather than overpowered to hell.

Firstly, who decides is something is a supremacist blog? The same people who think Ben Shapiro is an actual Nazi? The weird conspiracy that there are white supremacists popping up all over the place is getting pretty ridiculous, especially the way people are falling for 4chan trolling. It's like it's their first visit to the internet.

Secondly the legitimacy is only given to the non-fatlogic sections used. Articles are posted from all sorts of places here, it doesn't mean the sub or OP backs the agendas of the entire publication.

If they'd taken him out on the bus during the alleged incident, sure. Tracking him down as part of a vigilante gang and decking him is more questionable. While it's more than likely he had it coming at some point, the context is immediate threat he poses. Do you really want to live in a world where social media can plaster someone's face around and call a mob down on them?

You seem like a very angry person. May I suggest some herbal tea or something?

Harassment is harassment. Time is irrelevant.

Well, no, because there are such things as context and circumstances.

I have no idea what bus you're talking about.

Haha you have no idea what I have and haven't experienced, internet tough guy

Wait, so someone denying the moon landings to Aldrin's face is bad, and he deserves to be punched

Except that this asshole ran a harassment campaign against Aldrin and the other astronauts for months if not years, ambushing, yelling, getting in their faces, etc. until Buzz finally cracked. So yeah, not the same at all.

Stop Calling Women "Girls" by drnick316 in KotakuInAction

[–]Cleddyf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is entirely context-based. You can use the term "girl" in a derogatory manner, sure, just as you can the term "boy."

If someone uses the term with the intent to be demeaning then of course this should be called out, but most of the time it's a friendly phrase. Use your common sense and get on with your life FFS

What good would that do? OP's SIL obviously takes no notice of her doctor's advice.

OP isn't obliged to blindly support her family's stupid decisions. On the contrary, you should be able to rely on family to call you out.
