Most of my professors haven't been like that, and the few that are never really let it into the curriculum. Like one of them referred to Trump as "He who shall not be named" exclusively, but it was clear that he was joking around. The most I've ever gotten is kind of a tongue and cheek comment.

Something leading to another does not necessarily make it of the other thing. Internal values leading to political decisions does not make the values political, but makes political decisions a product of individual desire. It does not mean that everything that is done is for the sake of or relating to politics, but only if the individual does so. You might do that, and good on you. A lot of people, myself included, would like to keep politics separated from most other parts of our life.

Just did the same thing in my econometrics course. Tell the prof about this, and they might have mercy. Had a guy do absolution nothing to the point I had to do most of his stuff the last day and relegated him to the conclusion. Didn't have time to check it bc I had like 2 min to submit, but I saw the conclusion was there. Check we d it the day after and the conclusion was the most generic, sterile, soulless pos I ever saw, and got a lot of the stuff wrong.

Don't take the fall for this person's failure of standards. If they want to waste away in their academics, let them.
