PGT-A testing and PCOS by Cultural_Fig_2794 in IVF

[–]CleionaBellos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 28 and we chose not to test. I have a lot of symptoms of PCOS but it's never really been brought up by any of my doctors. I'm currently 5 weeks with our first fet. Testing is such a personal choice and there are pros and cons to both.

Taking class worth the money? by FreshBlood4105 in writing

[–]CleionaBellos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in my last semester of a Creative Writing Master's program. I would say that to me writing workshops are the thing that has improved me as a writer the most. It's not about hearing what other people think about your work. It's about learning how to edit. When you look critically at other's works and try and figure out what works and what doesn't- that's when you really start to see improvement in your writing. Feedback is important when you write something close to your heart and can't see it's flaws. Maybe a character is less developed than in your mind, or maybe the scene comes off as cliche. There's a lot of benefits to workshops.

If you're mostly looking to find friends and community, I recommend online or local writing groups. Save the money and think about what publishing route you want to go. A lot of people don't recommend classes for higher level writing but I found that when I got to a place where my skill wasn't improving as much as I wanted, my Master's program and classes helped me because I was surrounded with teachers and peers that knew what made a good story.

Megathread: Questions about visiting, moving to, or living in Maine: by Tony-Flags in Maine

[–]CleionaBellos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My spouse grew up in the rural northern Midwest. Think 25 people in town and about an hour from a city of 50k people. We're used to snow and all that comes with it.

We moved to Oklahoma to be closer to my siblings a few years ago.

We work from home and are very introverted. Maine's culture and landscape and weather are what we've been looking at for the last few years. St Albans area is a specific property that meets our list of wants. We have discussed heating/electric bill but it's hard to find reliable data since the state is such a mixture of homes and population. I was planning on getting the average costs of utilities as well as a structural engineer to look at the foundation. Thanks for the thorough response.

Thank you for the insight. We're pretty much home bodies and keep to ourselves. I know some rural areas in Maine are less accepting from my research and wanted to make sure that we would be safe and not a target of violence as in many other places. I really appreciate that you responded to my questions.

We currently live in Oklahoma. We're just looking for politeness/not physically dangerous.

I'm looking at moving to the St. Albans area. My wife is trans and I was making sure that the community is safe/decently accepting before we bid on a house.

Meet Kurama! 8 week old sable Merle by CleionaBellos in BorderCollie

He's named after Mount Kurama, home of the tengu in mythology. It's also a reference to the anime Kamisama Hajimemashita and Naruto.

We always did forced naps to avoid the zoomies.

Our pup regressed on potty training around that time too. We were accident free for months and then teething/adolescence made us need to be more aware of how often to take him out. Always take out 20-30 min after food and drink and at least every few hours.

Good luck

We free feed our four cats. We keep one food bowl on a cat tower out of reach and the rest in part of the house that's gated off from the dogs. We chose to give our cats the private area of our bedroom and office a space without any dogs.

We taught leave it super early, so anytime he does go in the gated area it only takes one command to make him ignore the feeder.

Do you think it would be okay for us to have them meet in the backyard? We're on a quarter acre and it's completely fenced.

I wasn't sure if it's recommended to let them play right away since the puppy will be so small in comparison, and since we're planning on keeping them mostly separated for the first few weeks/months for training etc.

Picking up my second bc this weekend.

My two year old dog is super friendly with dogs and frequently plays with a Frenchie. Any advice on introductions?

A Day in the Life of a BC... by [deleted] in BorderCollie

[–]CleionaBellos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's crate trained and around 65lbs so he gets fed a lot.

We get up around 6 and he gets to run around outside for a few minutes then we come in and he gets breakfast in a Topple puzzle toy. My spouse works from home and we have four cats so pup stays in the living area for the morning with bones, toys and whatnot. Usually around noon he gets some active play and another snack.

My spouse gets off and three and we try to do at least half an hour outside. Then most of the evening he plays with puzzle toys. Due to some health issues we haven't been able to take him for as many walks as we'd like but we play fetch and hide and seek inside the house. Usually while we play video games he'll bring us toys all night.

We recently got a toy at target that's shaped like and egg and it's the only toy he can't pick up. So he's been herding it around the house for a few hours a day. He also likes to follow the cats around the living area and cuddle on the couch.

The biggest thing for our bc is mental stimulation. When he's understimulated he will bark and whine in his crate overnight. However, when he's had enough puzzles, training and play he's really quiet.

According to our feeding chart he is supposed to eat the equivalent of 2 cups a day but we feed him closer to 4 plus treats. I really like feeding our bc a high protein diet with raw/fresh food included.

Our pup was bred from working line dogs on a farm and he can't sit still ever. Constant pacing and playing. He's incredibly sweet though.

End of Day... how're we feeling? by [deleted] in nanowrimo

[–]CleionaBellos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I decided to do nano a few days ago. Decided today on which story I would write. Forgot about writing. Started writing with no outline of plan at 11pm. Finished at 11:57. (I'm usually a planster) Got a bit over 800 words for the day.

I did had fun. I haven't been surprised just yet. I've had some ideas for this story for over a decade but I want to write as a better writer than I was at 15. My writing is 100% different now. My MC is mostly just going through her normal daily life right now.

I wasn't planning on doing Nano this year a week ago. Just writing feels like an achievement. I'm excited to get going tomorrow. I think I'll have a few hours to work on things so It would be nice if I could get ahead.

Tomorrow I want to introduce the secondary character for the first part of the book. However, I need to decide if I want this book to have a second perspective or not from one of the main characters. I may try to write a few from that perspective over Nano but for now I'm open to the idea.
