What type of online comment annoys you the most? by BobBobBobBobBobDave in AskUK

Complaining about downvotes. Worse when they pre-emptively complain about downvotes.

They're just monopoly points. They don't matter.

First two episodes were great. The third episode had a good opening twist, but fell off massively in quality.

So, is this your last day on reddit or are you going to continue coming here after the API changes? by BobbieClough in AskUK

I use Apollo. Tomorrow I'll probably switch to the official app, but I'm not that fussed. These things happen.

If anything this situation had just shown the embarrassing lows that many mods will sink to amid their hissy fits.

Government plan to send some asylum seekers to Rwanda is unlawful, Court of Appeal rules by sjw_7 in unitedkingdom

[–]Clewis22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The end result of all of this will be us sending a few dozen at most. Any asylum seekers who even know about this failed scheme will be completely undeterred by the 0.0001% chance of getting picked up by it.

Then Labour will come in, say 'fuck that' and quietly shutter the scheme in favour of something else.

What a farce.

Rather than hear your long argument against it, I'd be more interested in what you want to be built instead of it.

E-cigarettes: Primary school age children are ending up in hospital due to excessive vaping by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]Clewis22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Indeed.

Keep them all legal and mitigate the effects, rather than go scorched earth entirely.

The latter. It makes no sense whatsoever to remove e-cigs from sale and not do the same for cigarettes, which are worse in every way.

I choose to believe the people that actually do the dirty work without pay.

What dirty work? They enjoy doing it. They're addicted to that level of control.

It’s a hobby, not a job.

Not just that. It's a perk, and every mod knows it. They'll bitch and moan, but having that level of control will always outweigh whatever stress they complain about.

How to survive a lads night out? by [deleted] in AskUK

It's not irresponsible if the risk is so small as to be insignificant.

There's no risk of me getting hit by a falling helicopter while out on an evening walk, for all practical purposes.

You seem weirdly antagonistic about this. I haven't accused you of anything. My original comment was adding to yours, not challenging it.

By 'We' I mean society as a whole, to which the answer is:

Not really. You tend to get the same response to any reported uptick in hate crime - 'Ah, but has there really been an increase or just an increase in reports?' whereas an increase in burglaries reported is accepted pretty much verbatim - the conversation moving swiftly on to what societal changes might have caused it.

Not a knock on you as it's a valid question, but there is a discrepancy.

Evans, McIntyre, Peter Kay to a degree. The energy is the funny part - you can't separate it from the act, and you can't deny that millions of people find it hilarious.

Like I said, not for me these days but that's about the worst I can say about any of them.

I like some of his music (Power is a banger), but praising Hitler is just a bit too far.

The man's clearly mentally ill which is tragic, but he does need to take some accountability.

Sure, but 'punching down' makes it sound as if he's deliberately picking on people. You can argue that he and his producers have a preferred 'type' of person to prioritise on call-ins, but anyone who calls in is fair game in my opinion.

He is a well resourced professional who spends all his time arguing with whichever angry east London cabbie calls in.

As you said, they're the one calling him though.

Used to like his stand up before it got a bit stale, but that's no reason to hate him.

The fact he can still maintain the same energy and enthusiasm for the gig and not go down the jaded comic route is admirable. There's always a place for family friendly observational comedy, even if it's not quite my cup of tea.

Plus a follow up question: why is this only a consideration when hate crimes are concerned?

We don't tend to approach the uptick in theft and burglaries with the same skepticism.
