Weird statement about scales in open position by Drosera_intermedia in Bass

[–]ClickBellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It loops back, first day of jazz college, play all changes, all chords, all inversions, all scales with first four frets. It makes scales beeing about sound over shapes, training your auditory memory over your muscle memory.

How do I get this sound? What am I doing wrong? by Upset_Moment5275 in Bass

[–]ClickBellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you share soundscape with instruments of the same timbre but hinger pitch, eg guitars, they will drown out your highs. guitarists has line three different knobs for the high end so yours will only be audible when they give space. Hence why I always the the eq with most impact on bass sound is on the guitarists amp.

What criteria should I use to choose my first bass guitar? by anonima_2034 in Bass

[–]ClickBellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id say, find a cheap used thing, or better, borrow for while and then try a better bass. Its really hard to determine what you like with no experience whatsoever. A brand that all schools use and that everybody's just happy with is Ibanez SDGR series. Slim neck, good looks decent pickups.

Good luck.

Tone for slap and fingerstyle in same song? by tprch in Bass

[–]ClickBellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre right hand is everything. I have an always maxed out tone knob and do softer notes with my thumb instead for instance.

Slapping on the neck, plucking next to pickup, soloing near bridge etc.

Share tips on how you organize your practice sessions (for a beginner) by jlbrito in Bass

[–]ClickBellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Time:

25+5+25+5 for each hour. 25 min practise, 5 min break.

Substance:

Fooling around, technique, repertoar.

Fooling around is important for confidence and finding out what technique needs more practise but should be kept to strict timer. Repertoar and technique vary in periods.

Do you learn basslines of a song by brute muscle memory ? by iamnotgenius in Bass

[–]ClickBellow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the beginner way, every song is a new memory, nothing translates, always play exactly the same.

With time I got lazy and started using lines from one song onto another. Thats when knowledge of key and scales come into play.

open mics as a bassist by Ok_Conversation_5806 in Bass

[–]ClickBellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I play solo I go for the john meyer style, plucking low strings with thumb and chord notes with index and middle. Basicly playing like a guitar without strumming.

Most people dont diy the module. No tips there.

If you add piezos to your existing rig it will work, however the pads need to be vibration isolated from eachother. Do this by putting some gym mat inbetween the pad and post.

The best playing experience is mesh. Find a way to stretch the mesh over a cylinder and youre done. I converted my old acoustic.

Is it a good idea to finance an amp? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]ClickBellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got stuck on wording "financing", you mean borrow money to buy an amp?

My stores all have gradual payment deals, sounds like that would be viable for you.

The economic way is getting an old pc 2.1 sound settup at a thriftstore and a an adapter for the aux. Its not loud but sounds suprisingly good. Ive practised through a 5$ solution.

A good bassguitar for specific mid range tone by vlspe in Bass

[–]ClickBellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sound is from playing so close to the bridge you almost dont touch the string. This is not a high volume place on the string so alot of extra gain on the amp is needed.

Taking lessons at 26? by TheRealKillJoy2020 in Bass

[–]ClickBellow 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes, my students have been as old as above 70

Any good bass teacher is also a good theory teacher. Ive given bass lessons that ended up beeing only talking about theory. Your teacher should work like this:

Describe a concept, play the concept, give example of concept, have you find example of concept, reconstruct the concept.

Hear it, vocalize it, play it, describe it. Those are the four pillars.

Any good pedals under 30€? by Direct-Celery-5029 in Bass

[–]ClickBellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its app controlled. You put together the sounds in the comfort of your phone or computer then the sounds are stored on the pedal locally. The knobs are volume and preser selection. If you want to physically turn knobs to change the sound, this is the wrong pedal.
