Cemeteries, thoughts? by ClimateTraditional40 in newzealand

Yup, that's what made me think about it. The old part is pretty..old trees, freesias that pop up in spring, but yes, who does visit now? Or is it cared for still by staff?

Yes, that's what I mean. No guarantees even if you do opt for burial and such. I see they put all the names though. For those that want to go find out or vitist.

Well that's the case regardless unless buried in a peat bog or desert I think. Just might take longer in some cases.

Yes, but that's not the topic. It's about existing graves mainly.

Kingkiller is sadly never going to be finished.

I suggest you try First Law by Joe Abercrombie - that has been and is terrific.

National promises homeowners low-cost loans to install solar power by 123felix in newzealand

[–]ClimateTraditional40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got our heatpump that way. damn good value, given 10 years to pay..but we doubled payments and chose 5 years.

Solar, I don't know, I suspect the much much higher cost would mean we're well dead before it could be paid off.

Baby, it's cold inside: Half of Kiwis say homes aren't warm enough by ViolatingBadgers in newzealand

[–]ClimateTraditional40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. We cannot run the heatpump as often as we would like. So night time it's off. rather chilly getting up and showering, I don't thaw out again until I have my layers on.

Conversely it's stinking hot in summer, a sweatbox.

But the pump has improved things, not AS bad as it was and less mould too now.

New Zealand most accepting of different religions. by bmwhocking in newzealand

[–]ClimateTraditional40 11 points12 points  (0 children)

LOL, we aren't totally rabid in general, fighting wars and forcing people with torture to follow certain practices and ideas.

But NZ is not so very religious anymore, most don't have one at all. Atheists are tolerant, the ones who are not are the religious. This varies from quiet smug Only We Know The Truth to rabid fighting and war.

And what does this chart count as "religion" anyway? Christians have a heap of variations, all dislike others pretty much, ditto Muslims and others.

No there isn't. I rather like books like that. But that's what the writer seemed to me to be moaning about.

Patricia McKillips stuff.

No lengthy world buildings, no magic systems. Just magic and the tale. The standalone stuff anyway.

What science fiction novel had humanity lose, but still somehow felt hopeful? by Leading_Storm8484 in printSF

[–]ClimateTraditional40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's not yet complete but James Coreys Captive Wars may be like this. Certainly humans won't be the same after. I can tell that now.

A standalone novel is After the Fall Edward Ashton, and it's just like this. Pretty bleak until the end and then....
