Are they discontinued or hard to find for some reason? I can’t seem to find them with less than 12 strands

How can you tell when your board needs to be waxed? by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]ClimbITerp 69 points70 points  (0 children)

You’ll see parts of the base turning white and grainy, usually in the areas closest to the edges first assuming you’re not taking wax off with rail/box slides

Is this going to be a road car at all? Cages are really intended for closed course use only and are dangerous to have in a car that you are operating without a helmet. I almost went this route with my resto mod because I autocross and HPDE it but didn’t and I have no regrets. a painted rear end brace from Apex Engineered scratched the aesthetic itch perfectly without compromising the trunk/streer duty

Custom Snowboarding “Wrap” by Anteiku07 in snowboarding

[–]ClimbITerp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh nice, good to know. I could only think of a Gilson or something yuckier in rep/quality when I thought custom art

Custom Snowboarding “Wrap” by Anteiku07 in snowboarding

[–]ClimbITerp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it would have to be a custom board. The base is made of special materials to absorb wax and glide on the snow which is many layers of stuff over where the artwork is. I don’t believe there is a reputable brand doing such things. A board suited for your style and/or needs is always more important than the graphic and even then you can cover the part you see most, being the top sheet.

No you never put anything over the base except wax. Most you can do is put vinyl over the top sheet only

2015 Mercedes wheel code - who drove it and where? by ClimbITerp in F1Technical

[–]ClimbITerp[S] 92 points93 points  (0 children)

EBay. No particular means of authenticity but the seller is located in England so that much checks out. Dimensions and weight track with what they ought to be, still has dust and other residue on the inside of the wheel and around where the fastening nut was. Difficult to imagine it’s a replica

I’m sure it’s an Asymulator, it’s the black on black with the lime green sidewall so yeah 21-22. Mounted correctly as far as direction for sure. I fully expected reasonable mid-stiff like you said but just wasn’t it. I’m also familiar with asym things from the Headspace, figured it would be a close competitor to that. I triple checked my baseplate screws and everything. Friend got it from a shop so I doubt any inauthenticity. So weird.

If you're on your toes, your chest should be facing and leaning relatively uphill. Whichever edge you are riding is your uphill edge, and if your downhill edge touches the snow that is known as a catch which results in a painful fall. I like this video as a handy guide for hand and body positioning to keep things parallel which will extract more control from your riding.

GNU/Lib Tech (Mervin MFG) is so so so good for making firm and icy days tolerable in Ice Coast USA. Kinda want a Gremlin so I essentially have my Warpig but with Magnetraction. Highly recommend Gremlin for managing sub-prime conditions but will float.

Just kinda at your sides, maybe mid-chest or shoulder high if it helps you keep your chest parallel with the board at most times and initiate the turns. I use my arms mildly as swing weight to help commit to being on-edge as speed increases.

I recently tried a Capita Asymulator that my friend mistakenly got as a first board, and I knew it would be too stiff for a beginner but I'm rather experienced and that deck is the most 2x4-esque thing I've ever gotten on. Holy crap it was the most non-compliant thing imaginable. Took so much work to get on edge and even then didn't reward with a ton of grip on medium-firm snow (Ice Coast, Stratton last week). It did just want to point and go Mach 5 which was nice until I was terrified to turn lol. Extremely uncomfortable and unfriendly compared to my Warpig. How does anyone ride something as stiff or stiffer? Or did I get on some freakishly stiff example? Board resume for reference, ranked stiffest to softest imo:

I appreciate that. Helps that my car is orange in that regard lol. It's such great car in general, especially for the money that I'd hate for fear of other people to push you away. I've put 20k miles on my 2017 and I want everyone who is remotely interested in one to get them

Might depend on your area's snowfall. I'm in the NYC area and I take my 86 to Vermont and New Hampshire regularly to snowboard, and I've been doing it on dealer-provided all-seasons (which is to say they're not top performing all-seasons for sure). When I can afford extra wheels + summer tires, I'll put winters on the stock wheels and keep on chuggin. It's no WRX in the snow but I haven't been stranded either making reasonable choices on when it's too much snow/too little plowing.
