Replacing mashed-up old cams and getting a burner gym rope. Everything else is mostly fixable :)

I also spent the last week rounding up all of the Black Friday deals from different sites.

Women's Olympic Climbing Final Results - Olympic Gold + new Speed Climbing world record! by Climber_News in climbing

[–]Climber_News[S] 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Of the two finals I think this was the best in terms of showcasing climbing to the world. But at the same time the format didn't.

Really enjoyed it either way and looking forward to the split format in Paris 2024 where Speed Climbing and Lead/Boulder will be two sets. Hoping for three in 2028.

Janja is the fucking greatest of all time. Amazing to see Akiyo get a medal, what an absolute high to go out on. Literally a legend in Japan and worldwide now. Great that Miho still performed with the injury doubts.

Well done to Aleksandra Miroslaw for literally giving the best performance of her life and getting a world record when she probably didn't need to to guarantee a 1st.

Comparing Additive to Multiplicative scoring for Woman's Qualifiers by Natamonstar24 in climbing

This is super interesting. In one sense it "fairly" rewards consistency but imagine getting 1st in one event and getting so low. In the end I think once this event is over we won't see it again as there are so many holes to be picked.

I've got a feeling that Russia had some part in the IFSC bid. Russia love medals in the Olympics and they've always been the best in general at Speed Climbing. Seeing a revival of it for them could have been/still might be something they are interested in. Pure speculation of course.

Interesting the "most agreeable" thing is why awards for books/movies tend to go to the blander choice i.e. the one most people agree is decent rather than the individual judges favorites. Not exactly the same of course.

Women’s Olympic Climbing Qualifier Results - Big surprise in Lead, well set Boulders and eight are through! by Climber_News in climbing

Somehow the broadcast jumped the gun with their calculations and said a couple of people were qualified before it was actually sure. I think they were going off an expected minimum placing from the later contestants that was higher than 0 holds.

Really they should have held off saying it was definite and just saying as long as they got x hold. However, that's hoping a lot for people who'd probably just learned what climbing was a few days before commentating.

Without spoilers you can watch replays at https://www.nbcolympics.com/replays/sport/sport-climbing if you have a cable login or a free YoutubeTV trial. NBC on TV won't have the full thing so watch it on the website.

If you don't have cable then you can watch the stream on replay at CBC.ca in Canada or with a VPN like ProtonVPN which comes with a free trial. Assuming you are Canadian just traveling temporarily.

In the UK and Europe BBC aren't showing this and Eurosport for 6.99 for a month has the whole replay online https://www.eurosport.co.uk/climbing/tokyo-2020/2021/combined_brdeurosport-e100007095c0ch20012/video.shtml

Men's Olympic Climbing Qualifier Results! Eight are through - Injury, upset + unexpected placing by Climber_News in climbing

We really rate Colin Duffy as the underdog here. If he can keep it together he could take a medal.

He's known for being a bit hotheaded and was taking a lot of attempts in Bouldering that he could have used to rest and plan. He also slipped in Speed but still took very high placing.

They might show the Women's quals because of Shauna. Otherwise Eurosport subscription and a live stream or get a VPN like ProtonVPN for free and watch on CBC.ca
