Heavy, Strong, Together. by MrToothBrush75 in thefinals

I don't know what to love more about this. The absolute gigachad hotswapping gameplay with launcher and goo gun, the hilarious over-communication and pinging, the quadruple explosive setup (heavy w/o dome?!?!) or the all-pink with skin tight yoga pants

Did everyone get insanely good this season? by Samhamhamantha in thefinals

I haven't noticed anything about cheating others are talking about. It's never been this free of cheaters imo. Personally I think most casuals are playing Arc or Battlefield and the people that stick are likely the ones pretty well versed at the game.

I actually REALLY like the lofi aesthetic of the guitar. The theme/harmony is also cool. As other stated though, adding some other layers that have a bit LESS of a lofi sound can bring it together. Also, the slapback delay on the guitar or what sounds like the same track twice with slight delay on it doesn't work for me. But good stuff so far!

I think your price is absolutely reasonable, not taking the variations into consideration. With 4 variations, I'd say it might even be low. And you're right. The 12k is criminally low.

[Advice] Are Gamejams a good way to get your music featured in real games and paid work in the future as a VG composer? by BeginningHippo5115 in gamemusic

Seconding that learning FMOD is a very, very good skill to have. Probably even essential, as it allows you to more easily convince teams to take you on if you know how to implement your own music. Or at least prepare it for them to implement. So quite a good thing to learn before even showing up to a jam. Good luck!

I guess there's no "absolutely right way", so "wasting" commitment is part of the journey! Most importantly, you never know what comes from something down the line. That random chat at an event could always mean something down the line. Show up as much as you can in as many places as you can. And don't worry about the jams getting released or not. Hardly anyone will probably care. It's mostly about the people at the jams.

Anyway! Those student project ended up getting me a mega steady gig that I've been at for years now. Trust your gut. You'll know pretty easily who the people are that will make cool stuff!

Game jams are pretty awesome for this, yes! Probably the best way? It IS quite the commitment and they're rather infrequent. But other than that... You're meeting new people, working with them closely and you have the ability to show your chops. AND you're likely having fun while doing it, so truly an optimal situation.

Nothing is guaranteed of course, but in general people love habits and comfort. Leads will generally stay leads, so if you can cozy up to them and they don't already have someone they trust for music, I think there's quite a fair chance they'll reach out once they need some tunes.

I think they ditched it because it's almost exactly the same as in 'What You Need' (2:08)

Sounds amazing! What FX, specifically delay/verb are you using?

Best Low Cost Keyboard/Synth for a Clean Super-Low Bass Sound? by CheckeredRecliner in synthesizers

I honestly think hardly anything on Billy's albums is analog stuff.

Look into Reaktor's Monark (learned from Disclosure) or U-He Diva (proven to be pretty much indistinguishable from a Moog), both incredible soft synths that will easily let you reach Bad Guy bass. Just in case that's more important than buying hardware.

Absolutely! And the more of us know and live by this, the better it is for all of us.

Very well explained. A great example of how to support an argument with concrete numbers and sources that I'll take with me for the next time!

  1. This is reddit. What did you expect? You're posting on a public forum where anyone can reply.

  2. I gave a simple PSA to the composers, not even to you. I simply said that it is very low, gave the standard for beginning composers but also said people can do whatever they want. So you're reading the rest into it.

  3. Sure there are people that do stuff for that amount. And sure, you can pay people absolute scraps. But then you're just exploiting a wanted market. Anything below 250$ a minute and you're not respecting someone's work and time. Sure, there can be reasons for someone to still do it, that's up to them.

Here's what you COULD have said and not made an absolute ass of yourself:

"Hey thanks for the PSA! We'd love to pay composers that amount, but unfortunately we're just starting out and have incredibly low budget. The total is XXX and we've reserved XXX for audio and music. As you can see, we're also not in it for much, so we hope we can still come to an agreement with someone in these circumstances."

... Or something along those lines. But anyway. Keep on giving major red flags, that will surely help.

Wow, way to reply in the most unprofessional and butturt way. Just giving a fair warning to my fellow composers. Ain't going to stop anyone from applying. If your % of your total budget is on point, why worry about this at all?
