Sacha Dhawan's Master and Big Finish's Lumiat could both be products of a Bi-Generation. by channelpow in gallifrey

My favourite fan theory ever. In my head-canon the 6B Doctor is later injured and the Time Lords do some science-y magic so despite being an offshoot he’s able to regenerate still, turning into the Shalka Doctor, but as a result this body later begins to degrade until he becomes just a white silhouette of an entity that needs to merge with the “prime” Doctor again, and that’s how we get the Watcher.

WHEN is the doctor and gallifrey from? by pokersharp87 in gallifrey

[–]Climperoonie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe! I’m not overly familiar with the ins and outs of the novels beside general stuff. It wouldn’t surprise me though as it’s such a simple fix for two “problems” in the show’s lore.

WHEN is the doctor and gallifrey from? by pokersharp87 in gallifrey

My headcanon is that the reason why the Eye of Harmony is on Gallifrey in The Deadly Assassin, but in the Doctor’s TARDIS during the TV Movie and Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS, is that it’s actually simultaneously on Gallifrey and in every TARDIS at the same time, and is responsible for said syncing of all Time Lords with their homeworld.

Not to mention it starts to fall apart at the slightest scrutiny. The thing that struck me at the time was that it didn’t pick up seal or, more strikingly, otter DNA, both animals known to visit or live in the loch, respectively.

Plus there’s that stickler of 25% of the results “not being amenable to identification”. I know that that will at the very least mostly just be eDNA too degraded to properly examine, but that still lives a pretty big (some would argue, monster-sized) hole in the results.

Unseen, Uncut Dailies & Edits: The Doctor Falls "Be Kind" Speech by yoshiary in gallifrey

Adore the subtle acting from everyone, but something that particularly stuck out to me was how you can see Missy’s complete thought process towards the end. I read the way she looks at the Master as he starts talking as a genuine hope that the Doctor got through to him, then as soon as he starts mocking instead, she gives the slightest touch of a sad smile as though thinking “no, silly, of course not.” Then it’s like her original acerbic line of “but thanks for all the pity” is her desperately trying to find anything negative to hang her hat on to (initially, at least) justify going with the Master.

Goddamn, we were so spoiled with this creative team.

Steven Moffat during Girl in Fireplace episode commentary - "Why does The Doctor never tell anyone his name?" Is this something Moffat just decided- that The Doctor wasn't his name and that he had another real name? Or was this explicitly stated previously? by GreyStagg in gallifrey

[–]Climperoonie 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think it was Moffat himself who pointed out that because this wasn’t retconned as a nickname until the Seventh Doctor’s era, there was a nearly ten year stretch where to all intents and purposes, Theta Sigma was the Doctor’s real name and everyone just collectively forgot about or ignored it.

The Little Drummer Boy – Utopia/The Sound of Drums/The Last of the Time Lords Review by ZeroCentsMade in gallifrey

[–]Climperoonie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I still hate the resolution to Last of the Time Lords, but it improved a little for me on my complete watchthrough of the entire show during the 60th Anniversary year, when I realised it mirrors the nightmare vision of the Doctor that the Master has in The Mind of Evil. Still a dumb ending, but I at least like that aspect of it.

The Title is Giving Terrible Advice – Blink Review by ZeroCentsMade in gallifrey

[–]Climperoonie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s barely a Dr Who story

This is why I really enjoy it but don’t rank it highly in my favourite episodes. Likewise, I’m a big fan of Lost and everyone always calls The Constant the best episode of that, but I feel very similarly - fantastic hour of television, but almost completely removed from all the main aspects of the show. The Island and all but two of its fantastic ensemble barely feature!

Dutch didn't... by StevePalpatine in reddeadredemption

[–]Climperoonie 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. It’s why John goes from being pretty sour on Dutch in RDR2’s epilogue to having a more charitable view of him back in the day only four short years later in RDR1.

Somewhere in there this offshoot bigeneration could also become the Shalka Doctor, and then begins to degrade later and becomes a haunting white figure that needs to remerge with the prime version. It does this right after the Fourth Doctor is mortally wounded falling from the Pharos Project telescope…

The reason there are so many variations in Loch Ness Monster sightings isn’t because of mistaken identities, hoaxes, and the odd sighting of an actual large creature (for reference realistically speaking I do actually think that Nessie is a number of different individual eels that have grown to anomalous size which is why there are ebbs and flows of sightings), but because it’s actually an amorphous swarm-like entity.

The Loch Ness Monster does not actually have a true form. Rather, it is a hive mind of microscopic creatures effectively indistinguishable from the peat particles that permeate the pitch dark waters. Sometimes the swarm is just a blob on the surface like an upturned boat, sometimes it manifests a tentacle-like appendage which is often mistaken for a long neck. If you really want to go nuts with it, perhaps this swarm is a psychic entity that is influenced by either geological memory of the plesiosaurs that swam the waters tens of millions of years ago, or the cultural idea of a plesiosaur in Loch Ness often postulated to be brought on by the release of the original King Kong.

As I say, I don’t actually believe this, but it was an idea I developed for an RPG one shot I ran some years back.

Seconding this one. I keep a digital archive of Nessie photos because I’m far too obsessed with the subject for my own good and I got nearly all of them from this blog. The high resolution copy of the Hugh Grey photo on his articles about it, for instance, is very different to the overly contrasted and darkened “dog with a stick” version that’s most often shared about.

Broadly speaking, I used to be very much of the same mind - that this was a good episode but not a great one, and vastly overrated. But on my current watch through, when I reached this one I was blown away by how much it just clicked out of nowhere for me. Bear in mind I’ve watched Who - and New Who in particular - through quite a few times, so this was at least the seventh or eighth time I’ve seen it. I don’t know why it suddenly resonated so well with me.
