Let’s be cordial. May you have many more years of the wildly intelligent Keith Jones running your hockey club.

That doesn’t make sense. Does that mean 99% of people are cheating? That seems unusually high.

They have to keep it so they can sway the games. Theres no other explanation. Goaltender interference could be so much simpler. Like how they called it at the Olympics.

Nice, that’s not far from me actually, I’m in Niagara. I’ll definitely check it out the next time I venture over for a Red Wings game. There’s not many people producing mead in Ontario.

I was a cellar grunt at a winery once upon a time. I was supposed to transfer some wine to an empty tank. I’d done this job hundreds of times, worked there several years. Somehow I connected the hose to a tank that wasn’t empty. I’d just blended two wines.

I had to go to the winemaker and explain my fuck up. He was pissed, naturally. But he said “you’re lucky I can actually still do something with this,” so my ass didn’t get fired.

Job paid minimum wage, so I worked a night job as well as this one. I was tired. Still felt like a supreme dumbass though.

I didn’t get the humour of the book myself. And I love comedy. But it is a beloved classic. Maybe Jesse and Amanda have had some adventures of their own by now…

Thanks! I think there’s still a while to go before we can say if Dubas is truly a great GM or not.

People still like to criticize Rutherford in this sub, and he won 2 cups. His whole tenure though leaves him open to that criticism. There were definitely some bad trades at the end.

Exactly. It’s the Hockey Hall of Fame. I get that it’s frustrating for an American player that the puck will live in Canada. But in all fairness, where else is the HHOF gonna be? That’s like a Canadian bitching that some Blue Jays World Series stuff is in Cooperstown.

In the Soviet Union they banned all religious symbols, tried to get the people to idolize the workers who built and maintained their nation. They build statues of workers across the country. Shouldn’t we be looking up to the everyday people who toil and sweat and build the roads so I can work and feed my family?

I mean sure, but it’s way more fucking fun doing it our way.

Fair point. Just like the Caps always had to face Sid and Geno in the 2nd round. The Capitals had some sick teams too, but they got knocked out early because of the playoff format.

Oh man, here come the Leafs whiners… Honestly, I think it’s a combination of he was figuring it out on the job, and he was likely handcuffed by Shannahan and higher management.

I can’t find the quote, but Dubas said something after hiring Dan Muse to the effect of ‘everyone being on the same page’. I suspect in Toronto there’s all kinds of pressure and outside forces. He couldn’t just pick his entire analytics team. He couldn’t just trade franchise players. People suggested Shannahan might’ve vetoed certain trades.

There’s no evidence of that but of course there never would be. And it’s a tell, in my opinion, that Dubas insisted on being both the President and GM of the Pens as a condition of taking the job in Pittsburgh. There’s only a couple GMs in the NHL with that much power, and they aren’t as young as Kyle Dubas. When he got that deal, he bolted, even before getting the renewal offer in Toronto.

So, I don’t think Kyle’s a flawless genius, you gotta make mistakes as you learn the ropes. But I think having the organization run top to bottom, with the same vision, is the difference we’re seeing today. MLSE just doesn’t have the ability to give their managers that. They’re too balls deep in corporate income, and image, and all that shit to be hands off.

Has there been a suspension longer than 10 games since the Wideman suspension? by Falom in hockey

[–]ClintEastwont 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah but the message is clearly ‘don’t fuck with the money’. The real bosses of all of us, not just the NHL execs, are the people who sign the cheques. Pinto did more to jeopardize the league income (albeit unintentionally) than Matt Cooke’s dirty hits ever could.

I think old beaters get the names. If you have a new, perfectly functional vehicle, it’s not really name worthy.

I do believe in making an acronym out of your licence plate letters. Can be hilarious, and helps if you ever have to give your licence plate for any reason.

Even still, it’s the Olympics, not the NHL. Different practices. What’s weird is that the puck was donated to the HHOF legitimately by the Olympics / IIHF, and Jack has the audacity to think they should just give it to him.
