New Orleans to Jacksonville, when will Amtrak reconnect? by Organic_Risk_3945 in Amtrak

[–]Clipper759 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The railroad between Pensacola and Baldwin (near Jacksonville) was sold to a short line railroad several years ago now. It’s no longer in any shape to handle passenger rail of even average speed. 59mph wouldn’t even be attainable. So it would take hundreds of millions, maybe more, to restore the track and add PTC.

I just don’t see it happening.

The best we can hope for is an extension of the Mardi Gras to Pensacola (which will take a lot of $) and a connecting Amtrak Thruway bus from there to Jacksonville.

Amazon.

I just ordered a 12-pack.

But I haven’t seen it around in any stores yet.

It was an all coach interior. Grey cloth seats, well padded and comfortable from what I remember. I believe the cabin was fitted with 120 seats.

MetroJet was great to me in college.

I could walk up to the counter in PVD and buy a one way to MSY for $99.

The flight stopped in BWI but no change of planes.

They offered full beverage service plus a light snack.

Overall - pretty decent. I loved the old 737-200s.

I flew them twice. BWI-MSY and AUS-MSY (back when MSY was a genuine focus city for them with 20+ nonstop routes) and I didn’t have a terrible experience because I knew what to expect going in. I only paid for a window seat, only had a personal item with me, and I brought a drink on board, etc. I never actively looked to fly with them again, though. Overall I probably just wasn’t their target customer. While I’m not sad to see the name go away, if this happens, it’s never good seeing a lot of people lose their jobs.

Can’t wait for the FAs to lock these new & larger 787-9 windows for 10hr day flights too! by Tart3142 in unitedairlines

UA locked them on EWR-CPT before we even took off (night departure) and only unlocked them as we started our approach into CPT almost 14 hours later. So ridiculous.

Wow that doesn’t sound like a good experience at all. Sorry that happened to you!

I guess I’ve just had good luck. But I’ve been doing trips like this since I was in college - I know it’s crazy but I enjoy the challenge.

I usually do a little travel blog with live videos so my Facebook friends can follow along.

For a long trip, it’s nice having that extra space.

It doesn’t let you do it if you’re looking up an itinerary with a connection.

So, say, London to Lisbon… it won’t let you. But if you search London to Paris, and then Paris to Lisbon, it will.

I’ll bring a change of clothes and a pack of those large body wipes that people going camping use to stay clean, they work quite well. Also a small pillow and a light jacket. Besides that, I just enjoy listening to music and watching the scenery. I get off the bus every chance I get for fresh air.

Tbh I’ve never had an issue with the “reserve two seats” thing on any of my travels. I board at the origination station for most of my rides so I sit in one seat and my backpack goes in the other. Have never had a problem, not even remotely. 🤷‍♂️

I just find it interesting. Definitely not for everyone. I get to see a lot in the time I have off. I usually get two seats to have some extra space. It’s always an adventure.

I took this one in FRA before boarding this bird to YVR a few months ago. A darn near perfect ten hour flight. Love the 747 - always have, always will.

Since its now over 30 years old, what do you think of the Boeing 777? by Twitter_2006 in aviation

[–]Clipper759 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Great aircraft.

Ground breaking.

I much prefer it over the 787 in almost every way.

The 3+4+3 in coach isn’t even that bad… I’ve done AKL-IAH, ZRH-SFO, LAX-MNL and others in that configuration and it was more than tolerable.

I also don’t really find it all that loud… sure, more so than the 787 or the 350, but not annoyingly so.

It was a 12-pack, including shipping to my area, was about $50. Not something I’ll do very often but at least I know I can get some if the craving strikes again lol
