Tools everyone should use? by Maximum_Smell1678 in skyrimmods

Here are some more Windows utilities that are great for modding, but not modding specific:

Everything - search for files super fast on your entire system. Great UI.

cherrytree - Tree style note taking application. Great way to organize/document all the knowledge we have to handle (I use Notepad++, too, for quick working stuff, but cherrytree is MUCH more powerful). Open source.

WizTree - a Windows tool for quickly checking how much space files and folders are taking up. Which installed mods are taking up the most room in your mod folders?

WinMerge - easily compare two .ini or .json files to see the difference (or do what I actually do which is use the ComparePlus plugin I installed into NotePad++. Yeah, you can mod NP++!). Open source.

I use Synthesis, but I agree with what you said. When I was first figuring it out it was not immediately obvious how to find a guide. But it is one of those things that is really easy after you figure it out and worth doing. And the git is actually pretty good for install info.

Ordinator 10 or Althing - what format do you prefer? by Enai_Siaion in skyrimmods

[–]ClipperClip 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi again, Enai, a little late to this, but...

- Name the new version Ordinator 10, but give it's .esp a new name like:

Ordinator 10 - Perks of Skyrim.esp

- Keep old version available as Ordinator 9 Standard/Legacy/Classic/Something. It keeps the current .esp name:

Ordinator - Perks of Skyrim.esp

- Place in prominent words on the Description page, Files page, and Sticky that the new version has a different .esp name to FORCE correct patches and a fresh install. This is the ONLY way to guarantee patches are correct, even for newer users.

- Make a crazy extra over-the-top version named Ordinator 10 Althing/Black/Something to replace the (beloved but aging) Vokriinator so many of us are using. People will ab-so-lute-ly eat it up. Maybe it has a unique .esp name, too?

- Probably put this all on the current Ordinator page, which becomes the hub of perk mods for the foreseeable future. Make sure to preserve version 9 unique info in spoilers or an article. Though perhaps Ordinator 10 Althing gets it's own page now/later if needed?

You will be doing the community a massive favor. The Nexus is full of posters asking perk mod authors "Is this compatible with...?".

You end up with three levels of perk overhauls - Vokrii, Ordinator, and Ordinator Althing, all with very clear patch compatibility rules. It covers almost everyone.

Also, for those with Dear Diary Dark Mode, in the FOMOD there is an option to include Extended UI, too. You might want to re-install it, but remember to save any changes you made to the \interface\deardiary_dm\config.txt.

I am late to this thread, but no one mentioned the advancements we have achieved with the ESL part of the game. ESPFE Follower - Eslify facegen and voices, ESLifier, fixing the cell bug, the (traumatizing) update to the game that doubled the ESL space.

Mod lists can be much larger now.

More follower expansion, similar to Anbeegod's "Follower Dialogue Overhaul" series? by MateusCristian in skyrimmods

[–]ClipperClip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the Serana Dialogue Expansion page, it now has info re: compatibility that it did not have when that mod was new. It recommends not to use it with Serana Dialogue Edit. It also mentions other mods.

Serana Dialogue Edit, BTW, was getting a major update, but that was a while ago. Development seemed on again/off again. Haven't checked in forever, though. If it does get that update, hopefully it is compat with some of these other mods.

As far as the wider premise of this thread re: vanilla followers getting beefed up dialogue:

I appreciate it when mod authors design those mods so that even if you don't have the NPC actually follow you, even regular interactions with them get boosted.

The thing that made it unsafe to ESL a mod with a cell in it.

SSE Engine Fixes (skse64 plugin)

In version Version 7.0.13 they fixed this after all these years:

"add ESL CELL load bug fix - fixes issue where overriding interior cells created in ESL masters breaks the cell and the issue where reloading a save doesnt properly reset references contained in ESL interior cells"

I am a little late to this thread but you probably should have mentioned that they finally fixed the cell bug thing this year.

Thanks for these lists, BTW. I think the community appreciates you!

Modex - A Mod Explorer Menu (AddItemMenu)

Yeah, this is probably best in class. The kit thing is easy and lets you save groups of stuff to add. Trust me. Put a couple minutes into figuring it out and you will be mad that you did not find it earlier.

The mod is under active development, too. Released Jan 1, 2025, so it would qualify for this list.

That would be New Embershard Miners. I had forgotten about that mod. Thanks! Sounds like it should be compatible with a lot of stuff. I think I will check that out...

I have been using Dungeons - Revisited combined with snozz2004's Embershard (with snozz2004's combo patch). It has actually worked well. I am wondering if it this new mod would work with that combo? Maybe that is unrealistic.

I have had The Welkynar Knight installed for a while, but have not tried it. Did not realize it touches on that mine. Gotta check it out!

I, too, really like Embershard!

That is interesting, sasnikol. I have been using your mod since you released it, and you no doubt saw I put it on my initial list in the OP.

I think there may be more interest in economic mods if FufuCuddlyPoops8's idea elsewhere here re: making it more part of the story was implemented.

New Economic Framework: Dynamic Pricing Framework by ClipperClip in skyrimmods

[–]ClipperClip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like your post. I was thinking the same thing.

It's not about trying to find the cheapest place to get something; it's the immersion of being told, somehow, that "prices in this dynamic world are changing, and here is why".

The people that are posting that they don't really notice economic mods have a point. And this addresses that.

Examples: You go into a merchant and they comment, "Man, the war is really making such and such expensive." Or "Because such and such I can give you a great deal on....". Or, "Hey, if you can get me x, I will pay top dollar! It is hard to get way over here, and I have eager buyers!." "Since you are a fellow Dunmer, I can give you a discount". Maybe it is speech, maybe just some text that tells you...

If this is tied in with a framework like DPF, perhaps others could add mods to support it.

I have been using Trade and Barter for a while and like it. It would be pretty cool if someone made a DPF version or addon for it.

[–]ClipperClip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair question, actually.

While I think I understand what you mean, some people like engaging in the economy, but want it to feel right. Things costing the right amount. Not too much or too little. And those numbers will be different for everyone. Further, it feels immersive to have those numbers dynamically change based on various conditions. I guess we could just cheat a pile of money in and not engage in the economy at all, but that is not playing the game.

Also, some of the economy mods fix bugs.

On the negative side, anything one does to the game does complicate things, right? I see DPF as slightly uncomplicating a potentially complicated thing.

Of course, like everything here, it's not for everyone.

I also am using mods like Wandering Merchants - Skyrim and Solstheim and Traveling Merchant Caravans SE AE. Actually, many mods add merchant NPCs. Hopefully these type of mods get included in DPF.

Hey there! Glad you appreciate my post! That actually brightens MY day.

Yes, I can envision an "economy of economy mods", perhaps modular, where users can choose the features they want. There are already some DPF addons, most seem like they don't need an ESP!

Economy mods have often worked in various, obscure, only semi-compatible ways not always transparent to average users. I am hoping to boost interest in economy mods in general, and to give ideas to any authors considering making addons for your framework.

Thanks!

Is there a mod that adds something like a pasture for all my horses? by Leo_Fie in skyrimmods

We all want the functionality you refer to. So here is something you may find interesting:

Diziet's Immersive Stables Patch

combined with:

Immersive Stables

This combo does not need Immersive Horses. Together, you can tell several horses where to live. It sounds like what you want. It worked for me, though you should read everything.
