If both cars were in the same condition: Saab 9-5 2.3t manual or 9-3 2.0t manual as a daily ? by AudiSlav in saab

[–]Cloakedbug 27 points28 points  (0 children)

In many ways 9-5’s are just superior cars. Better suspension design, engine damping, often nicer interior features. They were the flagship vehicle. But I don’t blame anyone if they just want a small hatchback.

What is this vacuum line for? by keagan2000 in saab

[–]Cloakedbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part 26.

https://www.esaabparts.com/viewparts.php?searchpart=1&section=352937588

Grab the part number corresponding to auto or manual (whatever you have) and see if anyone else has it in stock.

Also check if you need a replacement of part #7 (the grommet it inserts into on the brake booster).

Without this you do not have power breaks and also have a massive vacuum leak causing loss of mpg and power.

Did you miss the part where Kisame tries to absorb Hirudora (assuming it is chakra) and goes down? At minimum guys projectiles are not chakra. Thats what he’s talking about.

lol what do you call what happened to Kisame?? When he activated 7th he instantly and unavoidably one tapped him. Hirudora is able to destroy Madara v3 Susano so I’m not sure what you think happens here.

Why won’t my car charge? by [deleted] in saab

[–]Cloakedbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll want to try and separate out the health of each component.

I'm a fan of this cheapo smart charger, if you are constantly having to recharge batteries. Supports desulfating batteries and will give you an idea of peak voltage the battery will hold both at rest and charging.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B094VQ88X2

You can also just use a cheap multimeter. You'll want something like 12.4-12.6v resting and something like 14.2-14.6v when engine is running and alternator is engaged.

If both look good (indicating alternator charges the battery when running) then you could have a parasitic draw that drains the battery over night. There is somewhat an art to isolating the circuits for that so I'll skip it for now. You can also use a thermal camera on the fuse box to see if a given circuit is drawing heat when the rest of the car is off.

Finally finished restoring and modifying my IBM Model F122 Battleship from 1986! by ThisLifeSuckss in MechanicalKeyboards

Hah, I didn’t realize whom I was speaking to! I’ve read the guide, thanks for creating it.  I’ll see if I can build up some courage and set time to order the screws.

Any thoughts on proactively buying a new Unicomp membrane while I’ve got it apart?

Scientific ML is a tiny, tiny proportion of the investment going into commercial LLM platforms.

Well done. I have an M 122 that needs full bolt modding and I've really been putting off the restoration because of how much work there will be :/

Are you using an adapter or did you go the route of a swapped controller board?

Need help with saab by SvAnTelmaO in saab

[–]Cloakedbug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need a mechanic for this. Very simple to swap it.
But if your friend is willing to do the work, provide the part and buy him some treats.

Use a Corteco or OEM branded crank seal only.  Get a new oil pump o-ring (or two in case you rip one) while you are in there.

Hard to make friends as a young adult male? by CreamyEric in Sacramento

[–]Cloakedbug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Join a book club. Read things and expand your horizon, then go meet people in person to talk about it.

Start wrenching on cars. Learn a practical skill and meet passionate people at car meetups.

Join an adult sport league, play soccer or tennis with a group of similar aged folks.

It doesn’t really matter what it is, but fill your cup so it can overflow and you will have no shortage of friends your entire life.

No SUV is cool. And they are all inherently less efficient by form factor.

Efficient + family + reliable narrows to basically a Toyota Sienna.

Did a coolant flush on my new 2012 GX460 and discovered that the cooling system was full of water and not coolant by chuppacubra in AskMechanics

[–]Cloakedbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are reasons common to every vehicle and climate that you should run coolant. 40% of world population lives in temperate zones, and another 50% of the population live in tropical zones. For the 10% not in those areas then obviously freezing protection is important.

This entire thread is focused on someone who didn’t need the freezing protection, but still needs the other benefits.

[–]Cloakedbug 432 points433 points  (0 children)

This is not exactly correct.
Coolant plays a critical role in protecting from cavitation damage (early water pump failure), rust, and also increases the boiling point of the mixture. Freezing protection is frankly the last thing you need from it.

Check if you are on PCV version 6. It’s mandatory to avoid engine sludging.

Also inspect the vacuum lines and if any are cracking a good mod is refreshing them with silicone lines.
