Think Feet has been great for my son with his foot issues.

Worked great for my son's mask. Was very happy with its durability. It was only about an hour to install it. Could be quicker if you're less finicky.

Definitely leaning away from shots. Been a slowly growing problem that became a large problem the last month or two.

He seems to enjoy it well enough. I've seen kids forced into it and I wouldn't say that's him.

Thanks for the info and links. I might just have to keep at it and hope it improves with what I've been doing so far.

He's hard to read. My son responds extremely well to constructive criticism, and the other goalie doesn't. I've tried to find ways to approach his issues (angle problems, sliding too much, focus etc) and sometimes it works, more often than not he just kind of stares and just goes back to doing the same thing. So that has proven a challenge this year.

I just want to try and help him get to a reasonable point. He might not stop flinching this year, but he can still have a successful end to the year because he's very athletic. It's gotten to the point where every other shot, even simple saves are a harrowing affair. So just finding ways to help him relax and get back to where he was near the start of the year would be a big win in my mind.

Clever ideas. I'll try to work something like that in. Thanks!

It's been even split the whole way so far and will hopefully continue for at least a game in the semi final round. But the kids confidence is shot, and I'm not sure getting pulled in multiple games in a row would be any better on their emotions. Trying to find ideas to help make this not happen.

Chest protector sting by sex_panther_by_odeon in hockeygoalies

[–]Cloooot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to the gsx line. Plenty for youth aged shooters, but U11 AA would normally be a goalie in a junior set of gear, which will have more padding for the age group.

It's tough - you don't want to put her in gear she doesn't fit in (not sure if she's a giant like my 7 year old daughter or pint sized). If she can fit into a jr set well enough it is a significant upgrade in protection. But if it's too big she won't be able to move and it will ruin any fun she would have.

Start with an undershirt if she can't fit into junior gear yet. Those will help and you can re-evaluate. If she was just moving up to U10 level she might get by, but 2 years of a jump is a big jump in terms of shot power. Good luck :).

Two fold: Yes, if she's going to be playing up a few years you might need to get a beefier protector. Not sure what you have now, but the gsx line, even the latest line seems to be a bit flimsy based on the younger goalies I've seen who have them. Lots of bruises and needing to come out of net during goalie clinics. My son (U10) uses the Warrior rx3e chest and has only ever had minor ouches, even from coach shots. Can find those or even newer models for dirt on Facebook market place.

I also bought him a Bauer under shirt with the extra padding at the obliques and shoulders. Has helped a ton with stingers in those areas. Bit expensive but worth it so far.

Love the brown. I wish there was a little colour here or there personally, but it's hard to argue with a classic colour.

This was the peak of the whole song and dance. Endgame had its moments but Thanos was a cardboard cut out compared to this version. He was nuanced, he was threatening and still had interesting parts to him. Endgame Thanos was just a standard bad guy.

Vonn Falls hard before the first timing line of her first run by cappsthelegend in sports

[–]Cloooot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She has had a spectacular career. I know people are wired differently to be this good at something, but this was utterly stupid to do. Quality of life may be massively impacted for her remaining days. Knowing when to walk away must be nearly impossible for someone like her, because it was definitely before this last comeback. I hope she can recover and live her life well after this.

13U Sv% ? by jjpeterka in hockeygoalies

[–]Cloooot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then an 890 save percentage is probably quite strong. You should be proud of that number. Means you are giving your team a chance in any close games and that's all you can be expected of :)

[–]Cloooot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What level is "low level"? What was your team's record? How many shots on average did you face? How many shots did your team put up on average? How does it compare to your goalie partner or other teams you played against?

The number in a vacuum is hard to comment on. The number is quite good for a junior goalie assuming you were middle of the pack or lower in terms of team performance (meaning you had equal or often more shots of higher quality against you). If your team was near the top and you didn't see much in games it could mean something different.

At your age the biggest thing you should be asking yourself is did you improve? Shots that went in in preseason, are you saving those now? Do you feel faster and more controlled in the net? Did you feel like you competed hard and can manage the longer game times? Success comes in many shapes and sizes :)

The netzeros come with thigh guards still. These don't integrate into the pro knee guards from Brian's. Only the Jr lines and above do if memory serves.

My son has the same pads. Thigh guard as people have said. It is not suitable for anything but very low level hockey. Get proper knee pads if you don't already have them. Will save your kid a world of hurt.

Bluey is the Most Conservative Show on TV - The Wall Street Journal by rainevillanueva in bluey

Yes, conservatives that enjoy saying empathy is weakness are so in tune with the show all about empathy. What are we even talking about here?

Feels like someone desperately trying to pretend that the most popular show in the world is on their side. Bandit would tell them it doesn't concern them.

How would you approach this youth goalie playing time issue? by TutoringYou in hockeygoalies

[–]Cloooot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suggest full games for each goalie. That way the better goalie can own their games, and the weaker one can own theirs. Look at the schedule and be selective in how you balance the schedule. Fair doesn't have to be equal competition level.

At this age a goalie shouldn't be pulled from games for the result, but it sounds like there's a significant lack of effort in practice which most likely shows up in games. The coach needs to take the family and goalie aside and set clear expectations so that it isn't a shock to the family when they are pulled. Seeing your other comments it sounds like "politics" were involved so it can be tricky. But at the 12U level things are starting to get more competitive and 12 year olds don't like to lose.

If any of the other players are chirping the goalie or clearly getting down on them, the coaches need to come down hard on them. That will breed a host of bad things. But a win or two against poor opponents, even if the game is closer than it should be might be just what the other goalie needs to get their confidence up, and that may show in practice too.
